We are seeking a technician for the SECAP Surface Enhance Capability to Assess Program team who schedules, and tracks damage control assessments on U.S. Naval Vessels. This technician also conducts troubleshooting and repairs on HM&E systems, specifically: Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF), Counter Measure Washdown (CMWD), Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), Halon, Main Drainage, and Fire-main systems in accordance with Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JIFMM) and International Standards Organization (ISO). SECAP works with AFFF/ Counter Measure Wash Down (CMWD) systems onboard all U.S. Naval vessels in San Diego, CA. This is a full-time, hourly position located in San Diego, CA.
What you will do
Assess, Train, and assist in the repair of AFFF system/ station valves with Damage Control and Hull Repair personnel. Coordinated the Assessment of all West Coast Naval Vessels for AFFF/ CMWD.
Identifying issues in three categories (Major, Minor, Repair Before Operating (RBO). Trained Sailors in all aspects of AFFF & CMWD systems configuration (by class of ship), valve recognition, and system repair.
Utilizes an “On Hands” approach/ technique specific to the Sailors individual strengths to benefit the Sailor as well as the command.
Assisted Ships force in the identification of proper materials and manuals necessary to make repairs to maintain AFFF/ CMWD systems. Conducted AFFF system validation to ensure accuracy of proper documentation in reporting deficiencies through ships CSMP.
Provided written documentation to both surface ships and SURFPAC to the Commands current status of AFFF and CMWD.
What You Must Have
High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications.
Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
Must have Mechanical experience troubleshooting and repairing U.S. Navy Ships.
Must be able to obtain and maintain DBIDS (Base Access) and a DoD Security Clearance.
Selected candidate will be required to have firm knowledge in:
Welding
Pipefitting
Collection hold and transfer (CHT)
Vacuum Collection hold and transfer (VCHT)
Create Special Tools to assist Surface Enhanced Capability to Assess Program (SECAP)
Must have experience in valve repair and U.S. marine sewage systems.
Preferred: Bonus Points For
A current and valid DoD Security Clearance
Prior US Navy experience as a Hull Technician or Damage Controlman is a plus
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
