Job Purpose
Managing the Advanced Engineering test team and provision of test services to support new concept development for future technologies, in accordance with the global engineering strategy. Leads the development and continuous improvement of the local Physical Test capabilities.
Responsibilities:
Engineering Solutions Design - Contribute to the design of engineering solutions; design the feasibility testing approach and supervise its implementation to support the development and validation of engineering solutions.
Leadership and Direction - Explain the local action plan to support team members in their understanding of what needs to be done, and how this relates to the broader business plan and the organization's strategy, mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals.
Performance Management -Develop and propose own performance objectives; take appropriate actions to ensure achievement of agreed objectives, using the organization's performance management systems to improve personal performance or manage and report on team performance; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports or project / account team members and hold them accountable for achieving these, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team / personal objectives.
Organizational Capability Building - Use the organization's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions to build their capabilities. Provide training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfil personal potential.
Project Management -Deliver small-scale or medium-scale projects while working within an established program management plan.
Data Collection and Analysis - Use data from a wide range of sources to analyze key themes and identify possible impacts on the business.
Solutions Analysis - Identify and evaluate complex, expertise-led solutions against a range of criteria to find the ones that best meet business needs.
Work Scheduling and Allocation -Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
Improvement/Innovation - Identify shortcomings and suggest improvements to existing design, processes, systems and procedures, then delivers a plan for a small element of a change management program with guidance from a project/program manager.
Knowledge Management System - Through intensive communication, cooperation and coordination with clients and partners, help others get the most out of knowledge management system and ensure clear and effective data flows, appropriate timely priority decisions, and impacts are managed.
Testing - Develop product specifications and design test procedures and standards.
Internal Client Relationship Management - Manage relationships with internal clients and act as a business partner to them, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust, and managing the deployment of appropriate internal and/or external resources to support in delivering business strategy and plans.
Health, Safety and Environment - Follow the organization's Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) policies, procedures and mandatory instructions, to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the wellbeing of oneself and others in the workplace. Identify patterns of risky behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve these, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
Optimise equipment and processes with regard to usability, quality, cost, safety and reliability. Own, maintain and manage within the department.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study
Experience :
Experience in Technical Leadership
3+ years of experience of planning and managing resources to deliver predetermined objectives as specified by more senior managers
5+ years in prototype software, controls, E/E integration and test of automotive mechatronics systems
Experience with CAN, FlexRay communications, including use of Vector tools
Matlab/Simulink (including auto-coding)
Programming languages such as C and Python
Multi-Domain, model-based design in Matlab and Simulink would be advantageous
Essential competencies
Detailed overall ePowertrain knowledge with focus on system integration and test
Good understanding of E-motor, inverter and transmission technology
Good understanding of analogue and digital electronic schematics
Knowledge of materials, mechanics, hydraulics
Knowledge of equipment testing, measurement techniques and methods
Knowledge of Experimental Techniques (DOE, FMEA, Statistics and Metrology)
Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem solving skills
Good Presentation Skills
