Overview:
He/she/they will primarily be responsible for supporting and executing an effective government relations strategy in support of the Company’s Global Network Services (GNS) businesses in Asia. They will also support and help drive AXP’s engagement strategy with policymakers and other stakeholders in other regional GNS markets. The Manager will report to the Sydney-based VP, Government Affairs: APAC/GNS. He/She/they will work closely with the GNS APAC leadership team in Singapore and other and Government Affairs & GCO colleagues supporting GNS markets around the globe in defining the Company’s positions.
Key Responsibilities:
Identifying significant legislative and regulatory developments at an early stage, by strengthening country-by-country intelligence monitoring in APAC GNS Markets.
Help drive AXP’s engagement with policymakers and other key stakeholders in APAC to defend and promote the Company’s interests in GNS markets.
Help build and maintain relationships that enable AXP to effectively engage the policy and strategy teams at the main policymaking bodies, including Central Banks, Ministries of Finance, and other regulatory/legislative bodies throughout APAC. Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Korea, and Vietnam will be priorities.
Support the VP, APAC/GNS in developing and coordinating policy positions, developing briefing materials, and assisting with submission responses to regulators.
Help coordinate policy positions on key issues that impact the GNS business, make them relevant and compelling to internal stakeholders by conducting research, preparing communication materials.
Ensure that senior Government Affairs leadership and AXP management is positioned and prepared to engage policy makers. Also advise on protocol for institutional engagements and coordinate external institutional engagement.
Assisting with the development and delivering of policy training material for global GNS Business Development staff.
Advise on/attend external engagement opportunities in key markets.
Ensure that AXP management is positioned to represent AXP in US business focused regional organizations, including the US-ASEAN Business Council and the relevant American Chambers of Commerce.
Drive strategy across the market to build stronger relationships with other key third parties who influence the policymaking process, including consumer and merchant groups, and others related to payments and financial regulation.
Skills and Experience:
Experience at mid-level in a government agency, lobbying/PR agency, or in an APAC regional corporate government affairs position. ASEAN experience is desired.
Language ability in English required, proficiency in other regional languages a plus.
Deep understanding of APAC politics and public policy formulation.
Ability to relate public policy issues to core business objectives.
History of contributing to or running effective advocacy campaigns to deliver changes in policy.
Strong attention to detail, combined with excellent written and oral communications skills.
Ability to deal effectively and confidently with senior levels of the Company and external stakeholders.
Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities against tight deadlines.
Collaborator capable of working with a diverse group of colleagues and internal business clients.
High ethical standards and experience of working with confidential and sensitive information.
Experience of financial regulation preferred.
Experience with fintech, digital policy, data security, privacy is a plus.
