About Manager, Finance - UPP (Hybrid Remote)

  Purpose:

  Reports to the Executive Director, Finance of the Physician Services Division and supports the Chairman, Executive Administrator and Chief Financial Officer, PSD for the departments within the Pod. This position is responsible for financial oversight including reporting, revenue and financial analytics, budgeting and financial operations support of PSD departments within the Pod. The manager is accountable to analyze financial results of Pod departments and their divisions and participate in the creation and adherence to the operating and capital budgets. This position works collaboratively with UPMC Hospitals on budgets, financial analyses and support reconciliations, oversees University financial matters as requested by the pod administrators, participates in the maintenance of department incentive plans and incentive calculations. As such, the position works with Corporate PSD, Division Physicians and Administrators, Hospital and University Executives on all analytical matters related to finance (projections, pro formas, etc.) The manager is a liaison between Corporate PSD and the departments to ensure processing surrounding the revenue cycle is enhanced by physician and department behavior. This position works with Department Administrators, Department Chairs and other senior Physicians, Hospital CEOs/CFOs and Senior PSD Management on all finance and revenue cycle related issues. The manager will conduct proactive and reactive analysis on all Department finance and revenue cycle areas, tracking/follow-up and resolution of all outstanding issues.

  This position will be based out of Forbes Tower in Pittsburgh, PA. This position will have the potential to work from home 1-2 days a week with a hybrid schedule.

  Responsibilities:

  Work collaboratively with and is accountable to Chairs, Executive Administrators, PSD CFO and leadership of other UPMC organizations and School of Medicine. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with UPMC, PSD, and School of Medicine policies.

  Oversee contract revenue and operating budgets, ensuring expenditures within their scope of authority do not exceed budgetary limits. Oversee the financial management of clinical trials. Lead person responsible for the development and implementation of the annual capital and operating budgets, coordinating with PSD Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis. Monitor department/clinical budgets. Maintain and report on all financial transactions as they relate to the department.

  Oversee in depth financial analysis of monthly financial statements, physician profit and loss statements, and the annual budget. Develop, update and review in depth financial analyses related to cost savings initiatives, new programs, projects or business plans. Oversee and prepare analyses that are timely, complete and concise with adequate supporting documentation. Perform and oversee the completion of return on investment analyses, as well as financial and scenario analysis modeling. Direct, forecast, and analyze the impact of special projects or new services and acquisitions; e.g. proposed facilities, equipment purchases. Approve and prepare analyses for submission to various members of the Physician Services Division including Executive Management, Finance, Clinical Departments, UPMC management, and School of Medicine.

  Oversee financial reporting and analytics development on a specialty or department or division basis

  Function as the lead finance expert in the subspecialties within the Pod. Participate in UPMC Finance initiatives that focus on those subspecialties including horizontal analysis, new models of care, etc

  Ensure proactive and reactive revenue cycle analysis within assigned departments to determine trends as they relate to CPT, Third Party Payers, Days in AR, Charge Lags, Denials, etc. Responsible for reviewing all findings with PSD Chief Financial Officer, UPP Department Executive Administrator and Chairman. Ensures the timeliness and accuracy of the processes performed to result in department patient satisfaction, maximum collections/reimbursement and efficient cash flow.

  Maintain current industry knowledge and trends, attending professional development and educational events, acquiring certification, and participating in all appointed committees.

  Work closely with UPP department leadership to identify opportunities for improving cost and quality of care through in-depth process and cost of care and new models of care analysis, forming recommendations to drive significant operational changes.

  Work with UPP department leadership to assist in the creation and implementation of business and program development plans that support and advance the department's strategic programmatic goals.

  Serve as an interface between PSD Corporate Accounting & Reporting for financial matters, including assisting the provision of information and explanation necessary for the development and analysis of financial statements, including balance sheets, profit/loss statements and analysis of variances in accounts, ratios, and income/expense. Provide UPP Department's Division Administrators all financial analytics, providing supervisory oversight, validation of data, and creating templates and standards across all divisions. Report, as required, on financial information at department and Chairman/Executive meetings.

  Provide internal control and financial management of physician compensation and incentive plans. Assure accurate and timely calculations and that plans adhere to PSD corporate guidelines.

  Develop and plan objectives with the Executive Administrator/Chair of UPP departments and PSD Chief Financial Officer, including short- and long-range programs in budgeting, revenue cycle, hospital programs, service line financial analysis and operations support. Oversee accurate, timely analytics support for the Pod departments.

  Develop, implement and review resolutions/plans of action for outstanding outcomes of financial analysis and revenue cycle analysis. Assign responsibilities and ensure progress/plans of actions are attained in a timely manner.

  Perform ongoing financial analysis of third party payer trends, and actively engage with Department Administrators and PSD Corporate Revenue Cycle Management to investigate and resolve issues, and to build strategies for enhancements. Ensure all parties are adhering to established protocols to ensure optimal revenue cycle/financial performance. Develop strategy to maximize reimbursement and disseminate regulatory information pertaining to changes in reimbursement while ensuring regulatory compliance.

  Assists with the selection, training and performance evaluation of assigned staff and recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions. Will supervise a team of individuals of varying degrees of experience. Establish priorities and assigns work, including projects and non-routine assignments. Review work for quality and conformance to department policy.

  Bachelor's degree in finance or related business field required.

  Minimum of six years of related work experience required.

  A Master's degree or CPA license and five years of experience will also be considered.

  Minimum of one year managerial or supervisory experience required.
