  General Counsel’s Organization

  The General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) at American Express is seeking a Manager & Counsel to support the American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) team, which provides a broad range of card, lending and banking products, corporate expense management programs and digital solutions to small, medium, large and multinational companies around the globe. This role specifically supports the B2B Payments Automation and APIs Product Teams on a wide range of legal issues impacting the development and marketing of commercial payments products and services.

  Our mission is to protect and strengthen American Express through legal expertise and strategic advice that help our business partners manage risk, identify opportunities, and deliver on the company’s promise of exceptional products and services. Given the dynamic nature of the global payments industry and the valued partnership between our team and the business, we see it as imperative to attract and develop talented people by:

  Providing rich work experiences and opportunities for professional development;

  Recognizing and rewarding those who drive and deliver results; and

  Respecting and valuing diversity, integrity, and personal accountability.

  How will you make an impact in this role?

  Provide legal advice and guidance on a wide range of GCS matters related to the development and marketing of B2B payment-related products, such as AP Auto, virtual card capabilities, ACH, invoice management and other payment and procure-to-pay products and functionalities.

  Review and approve product marketing guidelines and sales and servicing assets for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with existing guidelines, financial and marketing/advertising regulations and laws, including but not limited to UDAP and brand alignment.

  Draft and provide interpretive guidance related to commercial terms/agreements that govern the use of various commercial payment and procure-to-pay products.

  Partner closely with client teams to understand their concerns and challenges and use your creativity and practical problem solving to quickly action solutions.

  Work closely with other stakeholders including Compliance, Privacy, Risk and the Business Unit to ensure application of policies, procedures, and practices to comply with all applicable laws and regulations.

  Help support legal needs that stem from a recent acquisition of a B2B Payments Automation office in a foreign market.
