About Corporate Sustainability (CS) Team:
The American Express Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team is a strategic function that works to enhance and protect the continued strength of the American Express brand through public relations, social media and content, colleague communications, Corporate Sustainability (CS), Community Impact and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
Job Description
The Head of Corporate Sustainability is looking for a Manager Assistant, Corporate Sustainability who will support the Vice President and her leadership team. This colleague will provide high-quality strategy assistance, ESG governance support, data review, maintenance and analysis, particularly in support of the organization’s ESG strategy and Community Impact partnership support. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a cause-focused and dynamic team that interacts with colleagues globally, touching nearly every aspect of the American Express business. The successful candidate will report to VP of CS and interact closely with her team leaders, particularly the Vice President of Community Impact and the Vice President of ESG.
The ideal candidate must be a responsible, professional, creative and flexible individual, who is comfortable handling a wide range of tasks and able to work confidently under pressure in a team setting. Having the ability to build strong relationships, manage and operate in a dynamic environment, be resourceful and great attention to detail is critical.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Corporate Sustainability Team Strategy:o Support the VP with strategy development, internal and external communications and presentation materials, data and systems, tools and execution.
o Serve as strategic support for the VP, translating priorities into action and working closely with key business unit partners to achieve objectives.
o Responsible for the overall efficiency and management of the VP’s executive office.
o Monitor CS and ESG trends, best practices, and peer initiatives to inform the community impact and ESG strategy and identify new opportunities.
o Lead team’s engagement and organizational management, including team building activities, talent assessments, year-end process, liaising with the Colleague Strategic Partners (CSP).
o Build both relationships and partnerships across the team and the enterprise.
Communications, Process management and Engagement:o Build clear, effective and persuasive decks and content to support internal/external meetings and executive-level presentations.
o Develop and maintain simple, easy-to-use processes for the team and relevant stakeholders that allow the VP to effectively monitor, track and input into ESG initiatives and strategy across the enterprise.
o Develop tools, metrics and governance processes to track, evaluate and monitor the progress and success of the company’s ESG strategy and performance against targets.
o Develop effective data management tools and systems to ensure the accurate collection and validation of data.
o Monitor a central calendar of key milestones and activities across Community Impact, including key press moments and reporting dates/deadlines.
Other tasks and special projects as needed, including:o Supporting the VP and ESG team with development of the annual ESG Report, Proxy, disclosures, governance processes and associated communications.
o Support the ESG steering committee and administration of ESG Working Groups.
o Support incoming ESG requests acting as a point of contact and liaison with business unit leads.
o Support for new and existing community impact colleague engagement initiatives.
o Review of incoming requests for philanthropic support or commitment
o Contribute towards CS-focused initiatives, including those that that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; advance financial well-being; and support community resilience.
o Management and engagement of third-party consultants to oversee the execution of key projects and ensure timely and quality deliverables.
o Partner with internal and external stakeholders to prepare the VP for relevant events, panel discussions and engagements.
Required Qualifications
Excellent deck building and presentation skills.
Proven track record to organize, plan and manage multiple priorities while working flexibly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; must work well under pressure without losing composure and professionalism.
Strong attention to detail with emphasis on strong communication, accuracy, quality, good governance, timeliness, follow-through and operate with the appropriate sense of urgency in executing.
Self-starter and motivated, proactive team player with strong initiative and sense of integrity to handle critical issues and maintain discretion.
Demonstrated strategic thinking and analytical experience with the ability to synthesize large amounts of data and draw key conclusions.
Ability to provide strong decision support and lead through influence with a collaborative mindset and the ability to drive results in a matrixed environment with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Strong project management and organizational skills to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Subject matter expertise or familiarity on topics including governance, climate action, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and financial inclusion, wellness and literacy.
Excellent verbal/ written communication and interpersonal skills
Advanced Microsoft Office skills, in particular PowerPoint and Excel and a demonstrated ability to learn new technologies / systems as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in corporate ESG, Community Impact, or Sustainability work.
Experience overseeing reporting and/or strategy development and implementation.
Academic qualifications in relevant fields including Sustainability Management, Business Administration, Communications, Public Administration, Public Policy etc.
Understanding of ESG and Community Impact frameworks (GRI, SASB, SDGs, etc.) and issues along with associated market trends, with global financial services sector experience
Experience overseeing and implementing databases, management systems, policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits
