Job Description
The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Mailroom/Offset Pressman Operator. Our ideal candidate will be responsible for operating mailer equipment to process the Department's daily and special mailings, and performing related duties in the mail room to support agency distribution of materials and bindery functions.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Processes agency mailings to clientsTroubleshoots the mailing equipment for technical problems and contacts service technicians.Informs reporting staff on a timely basis to report technical, software, or any formatting issues on daily notices.Inventory control of the inserts which requires accurate and timely communication with other areas of the operations unit to ensure adequate supply.Processes manual insertion of materials as required.Operates Ascent Pitney Bowes system for preparation and accurate distribution of agency materials to local offices.Provides support for all incoming stock through the freight elevator.Operates an electric and manual power jack.Assists print production staff in assembling large orders of new and revised local office documents.Adjust to temporary staffing shortages and large spikes in mail/production volume.Operates Konica and Xerox digital printers to produce BEACON mailings, special mailings, and local offices forms and brochures.Troubleshoots Konica and Xerox equipment and places service calls to vendors for maintenance service.Follows print requests on WebCrd and prints requests as needed.Operates the QDirect software device to print all mailings.Communicates with supervisor and director on progress of all print operations.Operates bindery equipment (folder, cutter, etc.) as needed.Operates the Superweb and AB Dick offset presses and offset equipment.Responsible for all prepress requirements.Creates negatives and operates platemakers.Provides stripping of negatives as needed.Assists with operation of unit's van when required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Five years of mail, copy, or print industry experience.Must possess the aptitude to understand the entire mailing process - this includes but is not limited to operation of equipment, and the understanding of the automated and manual insertion of inserts.Expertise in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe AcrobatKnowledge of the various methods used in transporting goods, materials, and equipment.Ability to maintain accurate records.Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with coworkers and customer base.Ability to work a flexible schedule based on customer needs.Skill in the operation of materials handling equipment in a production environment such as hand trucks and dolliesAbility to take direction from supervision and management.Ability to define and analyze problems and provide appropriate recommendation or solutions.Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Minimum entrance requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in electronic data processing work, the major duties of which included the operation of the console of a computer and/or the peripheral devices used in support of computer operations, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in the field of data processing may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
II. A diploma for completion of a one year full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business or vocational/technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of data processing may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
III. An official transcript from a recognized business or technical/ vocational school as evidence of completion of a program consisting of at least 650 hours of instruction in computer programming/operation may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
IV. Graduation from the data processing course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
*Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
