We are looking for a responsible Magisterial District Court Clerk to perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks.
JOB SUMMARY
This is a full-time clerical position that carries out specific procedural processes within the DUI and Domestic Violence Central Courts. This position assists the DUI and DV Court Specialists with the scheduling, preparation and processing of DUI and DV cases. Assignments may include court attendance, data entry, or the use of other office equipment with emphasis on accomplishing assigned functions in accordance with the Magisterial District Judge Automated Office Clerical Procedures Manual promulgated by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts. The primary duties of this position will be completed at the Lancaster County Courthouse but travel may be required to assist Magisterial District Courts throughout Lancaster County when staffing issues arise.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist the DV and DUI Court Specialists by receiving and docketing complaints; scheduling hearings; preparing and sending written notices of hearing to all parties; accounting for any funds and documents pertaining to bail; establishing and maintaining files and computer records for all cases; updating such records and docket sheets with all activity of each case.
Assist the DV and DUI Court Specialists with weekly court sessions; prepare files and lists for weekly court sessions, attend weekly court sessions as well as cover for the DV and DUI Court Specialists in the event of absenses.
Receive visitors and callers to the office(s); answer questions from public, lawyers, representatives from other offices in the Court, the County, the State and related organizations about general functions and operations of the office and relationship with related offices; explain processes; provide information to attorneys and Court officials on particular cases; refer individuals to other officials and offices for related or further assistance.
Receive, review and process incoming mail; answer correspondence, referring complex and/or misdirected mail to more appropriate party; type or otherwise handle correspondence, memoranda, forms, and similar activity for the office(s); may receive and account for monies from a variety of sources.
Travel to the Magisterial District Courts to assist with daily operations due to staffing shortages and absences.
Provide general clerical support to the Deputy Court Administrator and the Magisterial District Court Training and Support Specialist when needed.
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS *
Education equivalent to the completion of high school, including course work in standard business practices.
One year of clerical and/or data entry experience in an administrative, governmental, judicial or law enforcement setting;
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge skills and ability to perform this job.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/CLEARANCES
Must have valid Pennsylvania drivers license and ability to drive to various district court offices within Lancaster County.
Successful completion of a Background Investigation
