What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
As part of our mission to enhance IT effectiveness on a large scale and support successful hybrid work implementations within the macOS ecosystem, we are in search of an experienced Engineer with a minimum of 2 years of technical expertise. Your extensive background in architecting and designing enterprise software using Swift, and Objective-C (macOS) is of great value. You will have the opportunity to utilize your profound knowledge of macOS internals, Swift, Objective-C programming (macOS), and software architecture. This expertise will enable you to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of resilient, high-performance, and scalable software solutions optimized for the macOS platform.
As a key member of the Horizon Remote Experience Engineering team, you'll assume the role of technical leadership, steering the design and development of critical architectural components, including ground breaking AI and ML integration. Your ownership will extend to engineering initiatives that pave the way for intelligent virtual desktops and applications, fostering a culture of high responsibility, continuous enhancement, and engineering brilliance. By leveraging your expertise, you'll not only shape the future of virtual computing but also contribute significantly to the evolution of AI-powered solutions in the realm of hybrid workspaces. Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
During your first two months on the job, you will work on understanding the product architecture, existing product development tools, and release process. You are expected to gain knowledge in the domain and the technology your team is already using. Participating in the team's scope and architectural discussions. At the sixth-month mark, it is expected that you will have a good understanding of your responsibilities, the goals of the project, and the processes and tools required to complete your work effectively. You will collaborate with your peers/other engineers in the team and the product management team to construct the product backlog, establish project boundaries with your team, and ensure that the deliverables are completed on time and to the anticipated standards. You will have to collaboratively work across other product and component teams. You will have to be a subject matter expert with deep expertise in the key components of our data pipeline and platform. You will have to handle the interactions with product management, cross-functional teams I, and other groups, internal and external to VMware, to define and deliver the required solutions. You will have to participate in all phases of software development including requirements, design, coding, testing, debugging, and performance tuning. You will drive the product deployments that include platforms such as VMware vSphere and public clouds including Azure, AWS etc.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Take ownership of Product architecture, design, product quality, user experience, and security, including the integration of AI and ML frameworks (Optional) to add intelligence to VDI. Perform debugging of hard problems and analysis of stack traces from crash dumps. MacOS Developers will play a pivotal role in software development for macOS, focusing on languages such as Swift and Objective-C. Perform analysis of complex tasks or situations that require in-depth evaluation. Manage activities to meet delivery dates and milestones and communicate status and risks to Engineering leads and project team. You will implement and improve processes around DevOps, Agile, and CI/CD You will be using software development tools such as Git, Perforce, JIRA, and Jenkins. You will be responsive to customer and product asks and escalations and help prioritize engineering work. You will be responsible for daily engineering activities such as stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, architectural reviews, customer support, and release readiness. Communicate on a regular basis with product management and release teams. As part of this team, you will work closely with cross-functional teams in multiple geographies to ensure product delivery and customer commitments are met on time. Our products are critical to our customers, and you will coordinate and collaborate with our support team to make sure our customer needs are met. Train and mentor junior engineers by providing technical guidance and direction. Take initiative and identify new areas of improvement for products, tools, and processes. What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
This role will be reporting to the Manager or Senior Manager of Engineering. The team consists of highly competent senior and junior engineers working closely as a team. Our team's focus is on challenging the status quo by innovating but at the same time getting stuff done. We believe in building trust amongst team members, and all our stakeholders and committing to making our customers successful. The team is organized based on modules to define clear responsibility and accountability. At the same time teams are fluid enough to own up whatever is needed for the larger product to be successful. The team is transparent in communication and helps each other for the success of the overall team. We believe engineers are the most valuable asset of our company and team. Where is this role located?
Flexible: The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager. You will be expected to live within a reasonable non-daily commute of the office.
