Job Description Primary Function of Position:
Are you passionate about designing software solutions that enable novel user interfaces and user interactions? Do you have a passion for working on real-time video for surgical robotic systems? We are looking for someone who thrives on collaboration and wants to push the boundaries of what is possible in surgical robotics today! Join our team of driven and dedicated software and system analysis engineers to develop real-time sensing and perception technologies that support novel human machine interfaces for robot-assisted surgery platforms. This intern, directly reporting into software manager, with the help of mentors, has an opportunity to contribute impactful work to the next generation of imaging detection and safety algorithms for robotics surgical systems.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Under the direction of mentorsStudy, create and transform data science prototypesDesign machine learning systemsResearch and implement appropriate ML algorithms and toolsDevelop machine learning applications for real-time processing of surgical video streamDevelop state-of-the-art algorithms in computer vision, and real
time image processing for medical imaging.Development of proof of concept for image processing
algorithms on pre-recorded video streamsSelect appropriate datasets and data representation methodsRun machine learning tests and experimentsPerform statistical analysis and fine-tuning using test resultsTrain and retrain systems when necessaryExtend existing ML libraries and frameworksKeep abreast of developments in the fieldFocus on details that are meaningful to our customerContinuously explore optimal data coverage for various use casesWork with Robotics and Controls Engineers to use simulated or pre-recorded or live robotic system behaviors to enhance accuracyIntegrate the desktop based model with real-time video stream and robotic kinematic dataDeploy the model on the robotic system Qualifications University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:
University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process. Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
Current enrollment in a Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related degree-seeking program at the Master's level.Bachelor’s level students would also be considered based on specific relevant experience.Proven experience as a Machine Learning Engineer or similar roleUnderstanding of data structures, data modeling and software architectureDeep knowledge of math, probability, statistics, and algorithmsAbility to write robust code in PythonExcellent background in Convolutional Neural Networks, Transformers, and deep-learning APIs such as TensorFlow, TensorRT, PyTorchMust have excellent communication and writing skills.Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skillsBackground in robotic algorithms, Kinematics, and 3D transforms is a plusFamiliarity with embedded system software design is a plusUnderstanding of C/C++ is a plus Additional Information

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay (paid at an hourly rate), benefits, and a housing allowance. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including relevant skills and experience for this internship, degree-seeking academic program (PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s, etc), year in school, and location. The hourly rate is prorated against the intern program salaries listed and total program compensation will be based on internship duration.
