Work Location: Leon A. Wurl Service Center: 150 Lambert Avenue, Erie CODUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:EssentialIdentifying and marking buried fiber, water, sewer, reuse and stormwater infrastructures by referencing utility prints and using specializedlocating equipment.Operates and maintains specialized equipment and tools used to locateunderground utilities.Reads, understands, and interprets utility maps, engineering designplans, prints, and aerial imagery to assist in identification of Townowned underground utility assets.Prioritizes work activities by reviewing all locate requests to determinetravel routes and timelines. Conducts field meetings with contractors orcustomers and other representatives from outside agencies and identifies thelocation of each utility line.Operates handheld detection equipment in the designed manner. Marks thelocation of underground utility assets on roadways, private property, andother ground surface locations, as appropriate and needed, using requiredspray paints, flags, or other marking devices.Maintains and updates records and construction drawings to mark utility lineswithin accuracy requirements of State laws.Conducts field meetings with contractors or customers and otherrepresentatives from outside agencies and identifies the location of eachutility line.Responsible for managing, inspecting, and maintaining permanent markingposts for all Town owned underground utilities located outside of roadways.Operates a computer, including a tablet, and a portable or hand held GPS unit.Ensures that problems are corrected in a timely and effective manner.Must be flexible to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions,able to succeed under stressful situations and conduct him or herself in aprofessional manner at all times.Performs snow removal activities either by hand, small equipment or heavyequipment as assigned.Employee will be on a work on-call schedule as assigned.
Administrative and Customer ServiceCompletes all proper documentation for each utility locate ticket. Activelykeeps current with new utility locating equipment, GIS and mappingsystems, and GPS locating technology.Updates staff of any discrepancies found in the field during utility locatesin reference to updating the Town of Erie Utility GIS mapping.Performs data entry of information, maintenance logs and other data inspreadsheets and related software.Responds to customers and contractors inquiries and complaints.Prepares necessary records and reports.
