The Library Specialist I will be responsible for placing basic one-time orders for library materials that are received through the Library’s Suggest a Purchase Program. What You Need to Know
Starting Salary: $15.85 per hour
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
One year of related library, office or customer service experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items
Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores
Knowledge of email, spreadsheet applications and library online research database searches and/or processing
Good interpersonal skills
Attention to detail
Reliable attendance
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Responsibilities:
Ordering Library Materials: Places basic one-time orders for library materials that are received through the Library’s Suggest a Purchase Program or via email directly from a staff member on behalf of the requestor. Uses FOLIO (Library’s service program), GOBI (Library’s main monograph vendor), OCLC to place orders. Processes all orders via GOBI. This includes the ordering of ebooks, including e-textbooks, and some print books. Communicates with requestor, keeping them informed of the status. Uses the established standards for accuracy, timeliness, and good financial practices. May interact with publishers and vendors for ordering, and staff within Monograph Acquisitions to complete the ordering process. Refers advanced and complex ordering issues to LAII. Coordinates with LAII regarding ordering priorities. Meets production deadlines for school and fiscal calendars.
Ordering Other Materials: Purchases replacements for lost titles, books selected by librarians for collections, TAMU press titles, and various other specific requests/lists. These will be via selections on GOBI, email lists, or spreadsheets.
Ordering Involving Licensing: Assists in placing orders for materials that require licensing (such as DVDs and streaming media) using e-mail, telephone, and fax machine. Learns and uses knowledge of the acquisitions and business operations standard procedures. Refers work related to licensing to LAII and Coordinator of Acquisitions in order to resolve licensing questions and requirements for licensing purchases. Scans licenses and input data into CORAL for tracking and usage purposes.
Teamwork: Cross trains on all duties within the Acquisitions Team. Works and supports a team environment to complete tasks in a timely, consistent, financially sound and accurate fashion. Works with staff from across the Libraries to order user-requested materials. Attends and participates in departmental and interdepartmental meetings, committees, task forces, etc. May attend workshops to enhance skills and p erforms other duties as assigned.
