OverviewUtah State University (USU) Libraries seeks a collaborative, innovative, and service-minded professional to manage the subscriptions process for journals and databases. The Subscriptions Manager is responsible for providing leadership for databases and journals acquisitions and maintenance. Reporting to the program chair for Collections and Resource Sharing in the Collections Strategies section, this position will work collaboratively with Library colleagues; University offices overseeing procurement, contracts, and payments; and faculty and student stakeholders. The Subscriptions Manager will supervise two full-time staff supporting the work of serials management and database licensing/invoicing coordination. The successful applicant will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment with support for professional growth and development. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position.
Responsibilities
Managing subscription resources through the establishment of product trials, access management, record maintenance, subscription renewal, and ongoing vendor relationsFosters and maintains connections with vendors and publishers in order to stay informed about emerging products that cater to patrons information requirementsAdvocates with vendors for the enhancement or creation of products that align more effectively with patrons needsWork with patrons and library colleagues to facilitate access to essential resources for patron researchMaintain and oversee an electronic resources management (ERM) systemManaging and negotiating license agreements and contract renewals with both internal and external stakeholdersAnalyzing and reporting on electronic resource data and usage statistics, such as counter 5 reports, turn-aways, as well as viewing historical trends and anticipating future trends.Developing and maintaining policies, procedures, and other types of documentationAssist team with troubleshooting and access issues for electronic resourcesSupervising and mentoring staffQualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
Six years of relevant experience; or vocational/technical training/associate degree plus four years of related experience; or a bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of related experience.Supervisory experience or evidence of leadership and management skillsPreferred Qualifications:
ALA-accredited Masters degree (preferred, but not required)
Experience reading, managing, and negotiating information license agreementsExperience with or working knowledge of relevant standards, initiatives, tools, and services, such as COUNTER, SUSHI, OpenURL resolvers, and proxy servers such as EZProxy and SSOStrong understanding of subscribed scholarly electronic resources, including online journals, databases, and...
