DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Public Library (HPL) seeks a customer-service driven, creative, and energetic librarian with a passion for programming for youth, the ability to inspire staff, and a passion for serving as a hands-on and highly engaged Librarian III- Youth Program Coordinator in the Youth and Family Services Department located in the Central Library. Working with the Youth and Family Services leadership team, this position will be responsible for assisting with the brainstorming, planning, and executing of signature events, as well as maintaining relationships with current community performers/vendors as well as cultivating new relationships with community organizations that provides programming for youth.
Essential job duties for the Youth and Family Services Librarian III- Youth Program Coordinator include:
Plans and implements new services, programs, and models to better meet the needs of teen (13-18) customers.
Participates in the allocation of assigned budget and monitors expenditures.
Prepares statistical and narrative reports for management presentation.
Assists Youth and Family Services team brainstorm, plan and execute large-scale signature events, systemwide events and special programs and projects such as Summer Reading, Large scale programs, etc.
Maintains and establishes new youth and family focused partnerships to meet identified needs and to further youth and family programming and services within the city.
Serves as a liaison for Youth and Family Services with community groups.
Communicate and collaborate with Neighborhood Locations about community programs or events via Youth Managers to assure HPL representation at community activities. May also serve as consultant to other libraries.
Assists with the hiring and training, inspiring, and guiding of library youth staff.
Working evenings and weekends for signature events and author programming.
Stays abreast of developments, changes, and trends in the field of library services as it relates to children (0-12), tween/teens (ages 13-18) and family services.
Assist with the administration of grants and grant programs.
Performing other administrative duties and projects as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires stooping and bending; lifting of library materials up to 20 pounds. Must be able to move freely throughout the library to file/retrieve library materials. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Master of Library Science degree from a school accredited by the American Library Association.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) years of library experience are required, including one (1) year of management experience.
