The Counsel typically a Legal generalist or provides counsel in a combination of disciplines. Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision, Uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action.
The Counsel is an attorney who represents Humana entities and employees in affirmative litigation and arbitration proceedings. The Counsel will manage litigation and arbitration matters, and collaborate with internal clients and outside counsel on discovery requests and case strategy. The Counsel will exercise independent judgment and decision-making on litigation issues and related tasks, and work under modest to minimal supervision. Applies in-depth and broad knowledge and frequently takes full ownership of legal matters. Organizes and manages individual litigation matters.

Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school;Active and licensed membership in a state bar association;At least 4 years of experience in litigation; preferably in the healthcare or product liability/mass tort practice group of a law firm or in-house corporationStrong project management skills involving discovery and litigation mattersAbility to organize and successfully execute a number of case matters simultaneously.Strong skills in communicating complex legal issues to various stakeholders; andAbility to work independently under general supervision and in team settingsExperience with large scale e-discovery
Preferred Qualifications:
Healthcare litigation experienceAffirmative and antitrust litigation experienceUnderstanding of Medicare laws and regulations
