Role Value Proposition:
We are seeking an experienced paralegal to join the in-house Legal Services Team of paralegals and administrative associates to support MetLife’s Legal Affairs department and work closely with our Investments attorneys. This paralegal position will support attorneys and professionals across the Law Department, including our Fixed Income & Alternatives/Agriculture/Derivatives Investments Practice Group. This self-motivated paralegal will primarily support the Agricultural Investments legal team; our Business Partners servicing the Agriculture Portfolio, and Legal Services Team initiatives. We expect that this role will support workflow for many of the asset classes supported by the Investments Law Department. This post will assist the team of attorneys in originating and servicing agricultural loans and will work directly with the Business Loan Management Group.This paralegal is expected to provide support to attorneys in our Overland Park office and handle all related paralegal and administrative duties for that office. This role reports to on-site attorneys and an off-site manager of paralegals.
Key Responsibilities:
· Assisting with farm and ranch loan closings
· Assisting with title review
· Assisting with drafting of partial releases, participation certificates and other modification documents
· Review and approval of key servicing matters
· Coordinating for the engagement of outside counsel on both loan origination and servicing matters, including litigation and workout matters
· Handling of matter creation, outside counsel billing and administrative functions for the local office operation.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required :
· 4+ years of paralegal experience, preferably in commercial real estate
· Knowledge of and experience in mortgage loan closings and servicing, title, and survey review
· Corporate transaction experience tracking transaction milestones from beginning to end, including due diligence and transaction documentation to post-closing matters.
· Ability to work with confidential documents and information, including review and negotiation of confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements for various practice groups.
· Experience working with outside counsel to coordinate activities and review invoices, file and calendar management, record keeping.
· Ability to execute legal research under direction of attorney – locating and providing copy of statute or case.
· Demonstrated strong attention to detail, organization, time management, project prioritization, and proofreading documents.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Notary status will be required for this position to notarize closing documents.
· High proficiency in Microsoft 365
Preferred :
· Proficiency in eDocs, Litera, Westlaw, LexisNexis, iManage (a plus)
· Paralegal certificate and/or college degree
· Knowledge of corporate entity maintenance and governance
