Description Legal Assistants support lawyers directly, and may be required to supervise other legal staff such as legal secretaries or file clerks.Legal Assistants should have strong analytical, communication and organizational skills, as well as computer and technical knowledge.In some cases, law firms prefer three to five years of legal experience in a law firm or other corporate legal department.
How you will make an impact
Categorize documents and assemble data as directed by lawyers and paralegals
File documents and files into an electronic storage system
Ensure copies are clear-cut copies of the original documents
Seek and retrieve electronic documents from a variety of court and agency web sites
Reside over legal research and investigative tasks, including obtaining information or documents from outside parties, as directed
Perform word processing, filing and faxing
Maintain documents for photocopying/scanning in an organized fashion
Record keeping, matter management
Preserve computer database input and retrieval
Write correspondence and memorandum Requirements - Experience assisting lawyers in preparing for transactional closings, depositions, hearings, trials and conferences; completing many administrative tasks, including, working on individual cases or transactions
Organizing and tracking files for important transactions or case documents, including pleadings and voluminous discovery documents; creating and maintaining a case-management database
Conducting routine discovery
Knowledge of Administrative Assistance
Experience with Legal Pleadings
General familiarity with subpoenas
Quality experience with Billing software
Draft Legal Documents experience
Earlier work involving ProLaw caledaring
Well-founded grasp of motions
Proven knowledge of Preparing Pleadings
Previous experience working with legal research
Skills in Microsoft Office
Legal Assistant experience desired
Draft Legal Documents experience preferred
Practical knowledge of Legal Briefs
Good understanding of Calendar Management
Wide ranging experience with NetDocuments
Drafting legal court documents, such as pleadings, motions, affidavits and subpoenas; transactional documents, such as trusts, wills, contracts and real estate leases; and closing documents
Investigating the factual evidence of a transaction or case and preparing exhibits, charts and diagrams to display information
2+ years of previous legal work experience and a dedication to integrity
