This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Water Resources Engineer for our Charlotte, NC, or Raleigh, NC office.
The selected candidate will be involved in variety of hydraulic engineering projects with our Water Team and be a part of a robust organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. At WSP the responsibilities of the role will focus on all aspects of NCDOT transportation projects. The ideal candidate is interested in taking on advanced technical challenges, while simultaneously mentoring younger staff assisting in development of designs and construction documents. Anticipated tasks cover hydrology, stormwater management, conveyance, culvert replacement, bridge hydraulics, floodplain mapping, and erosion control. The ideal candidate is familiar with NCDOT design standards, can advance tasks, develop high quality deliverables, and tackle unique scenarios addressing a variety of stormwater challenges along transportation facilities.
WSP has worked with all divisions of NCDOT across the state and is actively working in both the East and West. You will be joining a team that has the ability to handle all project assignments from NCDOT, from the smallest bridge replacements to the largest design-build interstate extensions. Additionally, our team is trusted to tackle unique hydraulic modeling challenges and is a leader in emerging software such as HEC-RAS 2D and Microstation Connect (OpenRoads). Our engineers continue to advance the usage of OpenRoads, acting as an industry leader in the implementation of various elements of the software for NCDOT.
Your Impact
Lead project teams in the preparation of technical reports and designs for transportation related stormwater and water resources projects.
Participate in business development activities including marketing, client engagement, developing scopes of work, and budgeting.
Ensure that production of plans, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
Capable of serving as a water resources Subject Matter Expert for multi-disciplinary project teams.
Contribute as discipline lead for NCDOT design-build projects during proposal development, design, and construction.
Supervise a hydraulic design team and mentor junior staff.
Coordinate work activities with various technical staff including developing and implementing design standards, leading progress meetings, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, tracking project schedules, and budgets.
Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
7+ years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.
NC Professional Engineer License.
Proficient knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process.
Ability to perform and oversee analysis of hydrology, stormwater management, conveyance, culvert replacement, bridge hydraulics, floodplain mapping, and erosion control.
Proficiency with design software including HEC-RAS and Microstation.
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
