The Opportunity

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Function in a Lead Role.
Primary focus of technical execution of project deliverables, on time and on budget.
Perform technology evaluation studies, conceptual and preliminary design, and detailed design for projects in the food, beverage, and agribusiness industries.
Build and maintain relationships with clients.
Participate in writing proposals.

Key Responsibilities
The NextGen Ag team is based out of Kansas City with professionals located throughout the US and internationally. Hybrid options are available!
Key Responsibilities:
Functions as the Process Engineering lead on first-of-a-kind projects, novel technologies and technology scale-ups as they progress from the conceptual phase through detailed design.
Analyzes client information (design requirements and operations data) to develop design basis for key unit operations and integration of novel technology with established technology.
Senior level technical specialist for process equipment selection, interfacing with vendors for sizing and budgetary quotations.
Establishes the work plan to be applied to the project and develops the resource management strategy. Provides direction to a group of supporting engineers and designers in process and other disciplines.
Prepares and oversees preparation of complex engineering deliverables including Mass Balance, Equipment Lists, Equipment Datasheets, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and Equipment Layouts. AutoCAD Plant 3D and Smart P&ID familiarity a plus.
Drives internal and external stakeholder collaboration.
Engineering Standards — Continues to learn, remains current and applies independent knowledge and interpretation about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes. Engaged in continual improvement of these standards.
Travel up to 20% to support project and pursuit activities.
Management Responsibilities
Acts in capacity of a "lead person." Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.
Preferred Qualifications
15+ years experience as a process (chemical or mechanical) engineer, or related field
Previous large capital project (greenfield or retrofit, 25-50MM+) lead experience
Experience within novel or traditional Industrial facilities such as Food and Beverage, Dairy, Bakery, Brewing, Pet Food, Consumer Products. Background that includes extensive hands-on (construction, commissioning and/or operations etc.) experience with similar equipment.
Experience with fermentation processes, sanitary/hygienic equipment requirements, CIP systems, and food grade facilities.
Experience interfacing with startup companies and corporate clients.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 8 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Certifications
Professional Engineer (PE) or active pursuit of registration is desired.

Typical office environment, typical construction environment, extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards (electric currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation). Sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
