POSITION DESCRIPTION: LEAD ACCOUNTANT
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Controller for Educational Entities & CFO, the Lead Accountant is responsible for supporting college, charter school and cyber charter school accounting, budgeting and financial reporting. The position provides accounting support for routine accounting functions including ensuring a timely monthly close for school entities, federal and state filings related to budget and annual financial reporting as well as compliance associated with bond disclosures.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Plans, organizes, and coordinates the accounting and financial reporting for college, cyber and charter activities.Develops budgets, and analyses spending trends including personnel, benefits, grants and other expenditure and revenue indicators to ensure spending aligns to organizational goals and objectives. Serve as the liaison to CEO, Dean and other staff members regarding educational budget, purchases and audit requirements. Maintain financial records consistent with audit standards, monitor spending against budget and timelinesPrepares all applicable month-end close journal entries, including salary accrual, recurring journal entries, indirect cost calculations, allocations, and accruals of other expenditures; monitor for reversals.Assist the Controllers with timely, accurate and effective reporting of all financial information to both internal and external stakeholders meeting all deadlines.Support the Accounting Manager and Controller in the month-end process, including balance sheet account reconciliations.Provide support in the annual budget and audit process.Engage in catching up with backlog, cleanup projects, system implementations, and accounting process development.Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations.* REQUIREMENTS:*
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related fieldExperience in school and/or nonprofit finance in an education related fieldKnowledge of generally accepted accounting principlesKnowledge of federal government guidelines is a plus.Experience working in Abila MIP is a plus.Excellent problem-solving skillsAbility to multi-task and handle a fast-paced work environment.Must be detail oriented, analytical, proactive and a team player.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
