POSITION SUMMARY:
Research technician in a lab studying the genomics of satellite DNA in Drosophila species.
The technician will work collaboratively with the lab group to support genetic research under the supervision of the PI.
40% The technician’s main task is to maintain fruit fly (Drosophila) stocks that are essential for research in the laboratory. The technician must have good organizational skills and is expected to carefully document all activities in a well-organized lab notebook. The successful applicant will work well with researchers with a wide spectrum of expertise and education levels. Training in Drosophila husbandry will be provided.
40% Aid in establishing and maintaining genetic crosses and scoring progeny. Some basic understanding of genetics and experience with Drosophila genetics is highly desired, but not necessary.
10% Aid in molecular lab research. The technician will help with basic molecular biology and cytology experiments in the lab, as needed, and depending on the qualifications of the technician. Training will be provided.
10% Oversee some day-to-day operations of the laboratory such as: maintaining lab supplies, keeping and updating laboratory records and inventory, maintaining fly traps, changing CO2 tanks, and maintaining compliance with University and federal safety regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Good communication and organizational skills are required for the position. The ideal applicant will have a B.A, B.S. or M.S. in biology with at least 1 year of biology laboratory experience.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $15.38 - $21.54 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
