Job Description
Purpose:
The Laboratory Manager, under direction, coordinates the distribution, oversight, and maintenance of supplies and equipment in departmental teaching laboratories. Prepares specifications, oversees laboratory set-ups, and ensures efficient operations of demonstrations and/or equipment in teaching laboratories.
Responsibilities:
Manages the Materials Fabrication and Testing laboratory.
Designs and builds fabrication and testing equipment and experimental setups for the departmental faculty.
Oversees and maintains more than 10 different instruments in the laboratory.
Design and help build instruments and testing set ups for the undergraduate labs.
Coordinates and conducts safety training for students and staff in the Materials Fabrication and Testing laboratory. Training and certifying undergraduate and graduate students to operate various processing equipment where a significant safety hazard exists.
Oversees and maintains gas atomization facility and powder processing equipment.
Help students in executing Capstone Senior Design Projects funded by industry
Help undergraduate students in sample fabrication and testing for laboratory classes
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate laboratory technicians and student workers
Collaborate with technical staff in the MEEN department in support of the machine shop, rapid prototyping lab and safety office.
Collaborate with faculty on the set up of their research labs, adaptations, renovations and local relocations.
Serve as a resource for faculty on repair and upkeep of research equipment.
Other Duties as requested.

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
