What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a current law student to join our dynamic team as a Technical Year-Round Graduate Law Clerk!
This law clerk position offers the candidate the opportunity to gain experience in a corporate legal office through support of Sandia attorneys in a variety of legal subject matter areas, including labor and employment law; environmental, safety, & health; tax; government contracting; ERISA/employee benefits; transactional law; jurisdiction issues; and other corporate legal matters. Expected research covers not only multiple areas of law, but also multiple sources, federal and state common law, statutory law, and regulations. The law clerk is expected to exercise independent judgment concerning how the law will apply to specific facts and to communicate this determination to a supervising attorney in a concise manner with legal support. The law clerk prepares legal memoranda for attorney use both internally and occasionally for litigation. The law clerk is also expected to draft succinct and understandable educational materials for non-attorney Sandia employees, to help them comply with relevant laws and regulations that impact their work.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Conduct Legal research and writing
Support attorneys on a variety of legal subject areas and matters, including both transactional and litigation
Work collaboratively with legal staff on a range of initiatives and legal proceedings
Prepare for Board meetings and other significant visits, and perform other occasional administrative duties
Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
Earned bachelor's degree
Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited graduate program
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
U.S. citizenship
Qualifications We Desire:
Enrollment as a full time first or second year student at the University of New Mexico School of Law, or a fully remote program at an ABA accredited Law School and located within commuting distance of Albuquerque, NM;
Ability to work 10-15 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer;
Demonstrated proficiency in legal research and writing;
Ability to work independently, strong writing, time management and communication skills;
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE-L security clearance.

Sandia's Legal and Prime Contract Division offers legal support and advice to leaders and subject matter experts at Sandia with respect to a wide variety of general law matters, including but not limited to litigation; corporate law issues; employment and labor; environment, safety and health; FOIA and Privacy Act; information, physical, and other security areas; state and federal taxation; employee welfare and retirement benefit plans; privacy; Foreign Corrupt Practices Act; government and other contracting; and numerous other areas of the law applicable to a contractor to the U.S. Government. This position will be in Sandia's Litigation, Labor, & Employment Law Center, and will also receive projects and assignments from attorneys in the Regulatory & Contract Law Center.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
