INTERN, FORESTRY INSPECTOR (La Crosse, Lancaster or Elk Mound, WI)
Hourly Wage $19.75 | Anticipated start date of May 2024
The Forestry Inspector Intern is responsible to perform Right of Way (ROW) inspection and documentation of vegetation conditions of Dairyland Power Cooperative’s transmission right of way corridors.
The Impact You'll Make In This Role:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Learn all applicable safety rules and work practices; apply as appropriate. Perform duties associated with collecting field data. Gather and read information from appropriate Asset Management Database System. Fill out inspection forms which will include a detailed description of each span of a circuit’s vegetation conditions, clearances, and related maintenance. Other duties as assigned.
Your Experience and Expertise:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education & Experience : Currently enrolled in a 2- or 4-year college with a major in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Environmental Sciences, Forestry or related program. Courses related to forestry, dendrology, plant taxonomy, or silviculture preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities : Ability to identify tree species, both mature and sapling trees. Evaluate tree conditions Danger trees vs Hazard trees. Good verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively communicate with co-workers and property owners. Basic computer skills needed (GIS, timesheets and travel reimbursement requests). Safety awareness and the ability to learn. Must obtain a valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, twisting upper body, bending, reaching/stretching, climbing over fences. Ability to negotiate uneven terrain.
Environmental Demands : Work outdoors, occasionally in extreme heat, humidity, or wetness. Exposure to insects, wildlife, and poisonous or noxious plants.
Other Job Characteristics: Considerable travel. Moderate supervision: ability to work independently.
