About Our Team:
The Virtual Technologies and Engineering department is responsible for the development and implementation of various elements of the Digital Engineering effort supporting our Nuclear Deterrent. The organization leads the development of a framework which integrates other model-based efforts into a cohesive and structured platform to support weapon system lifecycle decisions from concept through surveillance. The team also leads the Digital Engineering Strategy which helps integrate digital solutions that enable accelerated product development. This includes development of SOLSTICE, a platform for linked surrogate multi-physics models that enable rapid design and virtual build-test cycles, and leading the integration of modeling, simulation and augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) tools into the nuclear weapon design, qualification, and surveillance mission spaces. Finally, the department leads all aspects of two strategic partnership programs with the Department of Defense, the Joint Munitions Program (JMP) and the Joint Enhanced Munition Technology Program (JEMTP), which mature technology with mutual benefit to the DOE and DoD weapon missions.
