Description: Plan and perform difficult and involved operations to layout and inspect unusual and complex production, composite and welded parts, assemblies, or first run or more complex machined parts.
Typical Responsibilities
Work from drawings, specifications, general instructions, manuals, operation sheets and standard inspection practices and methods to visually and dimensionally inspect complex and unusual machined or composite parts supplied by vendors or produced in-plant after any machining operation or upon completion of first run development parts produced in any machine shop area or rework area.
Inspect complicated machined parts and assemblies before, during and after release for overhaul and repair operations.
Maintain certifications for Tap Test, Flight Safety Parts, Conductivity and Torque.
Utilize electronic database to record Discrepancy Reports (DR’s), scrap and remove parts from inventory.
Utilize electronic databases to reference QATI, SAC Quality processes and procedures, order tools and record part movement within unit.
De-issue part from work order for return to vendor.
Perform Tape Tryout Inspection, First Article Inspection, Casting Inspection and Machine Checks.
Interface with Engineering with regard to MRB parts.
Determine correct methods and procedures, make all necessary mathematical computations, and use most adaptable and appropriate measuring instruments and methods necessary to perform difficult layouts and make dimensional checks.
Use surface plates, dividing head, FARO arm, CMM and all available attachments, fixtures, various coordinate measuring machines and any other equipment and devices to make exacting dimensional checks of widths, lengths, depths, heights, locations, hole sizes, pitch diameters, spacing, clearances, alignments, concentricies, parallelisms, compound angles, interrelated dimensions, and other measurements.
Use boroscope to visually inspect inaccessible areas of parts and assemblies for FOD and damage.
Visually inspect parts for nicks, scratches, cracks, burns, dents, sharp edges, rust, corrosion, and other surface irregularities and check for improper processing, material, finish, heat treat, hardness, welding, brazing, identification, verification of source of previous inspections as applicable and sequence and completeness of operations.
Finalize results of inspections findings, prepare reports and complete all other required paperwork.
Direct and instruct up to 5 lower grade inspectors relative to inspection methods, difficult setups, and questionable deviations.
Occasionally advise and work with vendor representatives, Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering concerning discrepancies and other matters affecting quality control standards.
Travel to vendors to inspect in-process work as required.
Perform other duties consistent with inspection operations when required.
Perform operator checklist as required and follow all rules and regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety.
Contribute to the overall effectiveness of equipment by performing operator required upkeep.
As required segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.
Refer only difficult and unusual problems to working leader or supervisor
Basic Qualifications:
Requires well-rounded knowledge of advanced mathematics including trigonometry, handbook formulas, inspection methods and practices, machining processes aircraft processes materials and specifications, surface plate layout methods, manufacturing processes, and the use and capabilities of precision measuring instruments and other inspection equipment.
Equivalent to a minimum of 4 years high school plus 4 years technical training. Maintain current certification(s) as required.
Flight Safety Parts Certification required

Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
