  Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedIndividual Giving Officer - Nursingat its Detroit campus location.

  Essential functions (job duties):

  Job Purpose

  Support and participate in fundraising efforts, strategies and initiatives for the College of Nursing under the direction of the College of Nursing development team. Cultivate, solicit and steward leadership annual gift donors to meet established fundraising goals within the allocated expense budget.

  Essential Functions

  Manage a portfolio of leadership annual gift prospects (125-175). Identify and qualify prospects. Conduct one-on-one solicitations to strengthen constituent relations and increase donor giving at the $1,000 level or higher. Responsible for achieving annual fundraising goal and assisting in meeting unit goals; allocating and prioritizing time and resources to achieve the greatest return on investment. Performance and productivity will be measured on the following core metrics as determined annually:

  Dollars raised for cash and in-kind giftsNumber of gift solicitations from $1,000-$24,999Number of gifts closed from $1,000-$24,999Number of face to face meetings (visits) with prospects and donorsNumber of strategic contacts made via phone and email with prospects and donorsLead the College of Nursing’s annual giving program and serve as a liaison to the Development Division’s Annual Giving team. Collaborate and strategize with Annual Giving on methodologies to increase the alumni, staff, student, and friend donor base by: providing leadership for WSU’s Giving Day for the College of Nursing; assisting with the creation and editing of annual giving solicitation letters, emails, calling scripts, socia media posts, texts, and webpages; serve as the college’s liaison to the student call center; strengthen participation in the annual faculty/staff giving campaign; increase participation in WSU’s Wayne Loyal program; and crafting a class gift campaign in conjuction with student leadership.

  Assist with the College of Nursing’s alumni relations program and serve as a liaison to the Development Division’s Alumni Relations team. Develop and support strategies, communications and activities (both in-person and virtually) that help to strengthen engagement with alumni and friends. This includes, but is not limited to: initiatives related to the engagement of the college’s Graduates Of the Last Decade (GOLD Alumni); events hosted by the College of Nursing such as its lectureships, Urban Health Research Conference, alumni receptions, alumni “coffee hours”, career networking sessions, and Nurses Week programming; opportunities for nursing alumni/friends to engage via the WSU Alumni Association’s annual Golden Jubilee celebration, Week of Service, and regional programming.

  Collaborate with the College of Nursing’s Director of Philanthropy as well as the Development Division’s Donor Relations team to develop and implement strategies to ensure appropriate stewardship of prospects and donors. This includes but is not limited to: assisting with broadbased donor recognition and stewardship materials such as the creation of Thankview videos/messages, letters, emails, and call scripts; supporting efforts related to the engagement and stewardship of corporate sponsors (specifically related to the college’s Urban Health Research Conference); managing the logistics of the college’s Scholarship Awards & Reception program; assisting with faculty/staff/student appreciation activities (the Inspire from Within campaign); and assisting with outreach related to the university’s annual impact reports.

  Develop fundraising plans, strategies and activities to engage alumni and build a donor pipeline; establish realistic and achievable timelines and remain current with fundraising trends and techniques.

  Qualifications:

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  Education

  Bachelor's degree

  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in marketing, public relations, business administration or related field.

  Reasonable knowledge and understanding of university policies and procedures.

  Experience

  Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

  Minimum 3-4 years experience working as a fundraising professional in direct individual solicitations.

  Direct experience preparing proposals and conducting gift solicitations preferred. Higher education development and prior volunteer management experience preferred.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. Ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds.

  PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills required. Demonstrated ability to manage and execute multiple creative projects in various media, often at the same time. Maturity, sound judgment and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.

  ANALYTICAL AND PRESENTATION SKILLS: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.

  TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferrably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and Teams.

  LEARNING AGILITY: Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist.

  TEAMWORK: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects.
