A Brief OverviewPolicyLab at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a Communications Director to join our Communications and Leadership Teams. PolicyLab is a research center within CHOP's Research Institute that aims to achieve optimal health and well-being by informing program and policy changes through interdisciplinary research.
PolicyLab offers this exciting opportunity to impact the organization's mission by setting and advancing its communications strategy, raising its visibility, promoting its research, and supporting its policy agenda. In addition to working collaboratively with PolicyLab's policy team and research leadership on strategies to advance the organization's priorities, the Communications Director will manage a three-person team and provide direct support to PolicyLab faculty on translation and dissemination of their research and initiatives to internal and external audiences.
The Communications Director position is ideal for a communication professional with a background in health and research translation, knowledge of media relations, experience with people management, interest in both strategy and execution and a passion for health equity. A strong foundation in writing and the ability to work well on and across teams are keys to success in this role.
What you will doDevelops and implements the overall PolicyLab strategic communications agenda, including expanding the organization's communications capabilities and strategizing on how to diversify content shared externally; managing the development of strategic communications plans related to research portfolios and high-profile research; and aligning communications goals and planning with policy and research priorities, working closely with the Health Policy Director and senior research leadershipSupervises a team of communications professionals who are responsible for executing strategic communications plans for disseminating research; managing vendor relationships; developing and implementing strategies to grow website visitors and increase engagement; creating editorial content, including blog posts, op-eds, and videos; partnering with policy and research teams on production of policy tools; managing external and internal email newsletters to deliver content to targeted audiences; executing PolicyLab's social media strategy; developing and disseminating PolicyLab's external and internal annual reports; and organizing and promoting an internal speaker series and other center-hosted eventsOversees PolicyLab's public relations strategy, including media outreach, working closely with the CHOP Public Relations team when appropriateManages PolicyLab's internal communications channels, ensuring all team members are informed on updates and center businessEducation QualificationsBachelor's Degree RequiredMaster's Degree in a related field PreferredSkills and AbilitiesExcellent verbal and written communications skillsExcellent interpersonal skillsExcellent customer service skillsExcellent time management skillsStrong critical thinking / problem-solving skillsExcellent project management skillsExcellent organizational skillsExcellent analytical skillsStrong leadership skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality and professionalismAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionAbility to convey complex or technical information in an easy-to-understand mannerAbility to collaborate with stakeholders at all levelsAbility to be flexible and adaptable to change
