Job Description
The Washington Post is looking for a producer and community manager who will host, shoot and edit daily TikToks as well as foster audience growth on TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and other social platforms. The ideal candidate has on-camera experience, has produced vertical video for social media and possesses a deep passion for news and media literacy. This producer will work with a team of other vertical video personalities and editors to improve the quality and increase the audience across Washington Post social channels.
Candidates should have experience pitching stories, writing and fact-checking scripts, and hosting, shooting and editing themselves using Adobe Suite products. We are interested in hearing from candidates with exceptional news judgment and a demonstrated history of writing or producing impactful journalism.
This producer will be expected to bring their own hosting style to our channels, within the look and feel set by our lead TikTok personality, as well as regularly appear on our channels and produce videos from start to finish, independently. The producer should feel comfortable engaging with audiences, across platforms, in an authentic way that fits their voice. They should plan to maintain weekly analytics reports, manage and engage with live events, develop merchandise opportunities, and pursue other audience engagement activities. We're eager to find someone with a passion for news and informing others to find a unique way to be a newspaper on TikTok, daily.
The producer will work closely with the TikTok team, wider video department and the core social media team to develop and execute an ongoing growth strategy for existing and potential new platforms. The person in this role will help maintain editorial calendars, work across the newsroom to develop relationships with reporters and editors, and partner with the analytics team to make data-informed decisions.
This position is based in our Washington newsroom.
