The Houghton County Road Commission has an immediate opening for an experienced* Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their Ripley Garage team in *Hancock, Michigan. This position requires someone who has a strong background in welding, diesel mechanics and heavy equipment.

$23.11 -- $25.68 per hour starting pay.Health, dental, vision and life insurance. Repair, weld and maintain pickups, trucks, heavy duty equipment and special equipment.Utilize a well-rounded knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical components, hydraulic systems, brakes, cooling, and air conditioning systems.Examine vehicles to determine the nature and extent of repairs needed.Raise vehicles using jacks or hoists to gain access to underside of vehicles.Repair vehicles by installing new or rebuilt parts.Perform general maintenance, safety checks and electrical repairs; make adjustments using hand tools or special tools.Overhaul and repair engines, transmissions, differentials, and other components using mechanics tools and other equipment.May need to fabricate to update equipment.Practice safe work and lifting procedures at all times including wearing safety equipment.Lift, push and pull heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
At least 2 years' experience as a truck and heavy equipment/construction mechanic and welder preferred.Valid driver's license required; Class A CDL preferred.Experience in engine electronics on modern equipment preferred.State Certified as a Mechanic and/or Welder is preferred.Basic mechanic's tool set required; company provides specialty tools/equipment.Must be observant and safety minded in the course of completing your work.Ability to collaborate with others as well as work independently while maintaining a positive attitude.Ability to work in a shop environment as well as travel throughout Houghton County to worksites in a company provided vehicle.Flexibility to work outside of normal scheduled hours and/or respond to emergencies if needed.Ability to pass a physical and drug test (paid for by the Road Commission) required.* SOUND LIKE YOU? *Take the next step and apply online at houghtoncounty.hirescore.com
