Description:
JOB SUMMARY
Analyzes health records for documentation compliance in accordance with regulatory & accreditation requirements and medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations. Performs documentation imaging functions including quality control and validation. Supports Health Information department (HIM) functions including, but not limited to coordination of audits and reconciliation of coded/abstracted records. Provides general office coverage including answering phones and responding to requests for information from internal and external customers. Assists in the orientation and training of new colleagues.
JOB DUTIES
Task includes utilizing data printout, retrieving records from patient care areas, sorting/dispersing documentation retrieved, printing face sheets and patient labels if needed.
Provides general office coverage including answering phones, retrieving and following up on voice mail, processing incoming mail and faxes.
Responds to walk-in patient requests for information/medical records.
Responds to requests for information from internal and external customers pertaining to treatment, payment or operations in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Performs record prep for scanning purposes:Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
Education: High school diploma required. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of health records as normally obtained through an Associate Degree in Health Information Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licensure: None
Experience: One to two years of health records experience in a hospital or complex medical office setting, including experience working with electronic medical records. Minimum of 1-2 years of general office experience preferred.
