This is a full-time position working M-F, 8am-4:30pm
Job Purpose or Objective(s): As the health Information Management Specialist 1, you will maintain and securely storing confidential patient records and information. You will participate in rigorous training to perform other duties as assigned to best serve all internal and external customers of the Choctaw Nation Health Services. You will report to the Supervisor or Manager.
Primary Tasks:
Follows policies and procedures for scanning and auditing documents and reports into Vista Imaging.
Retrieves medical records, loose filing, and authorizations from clinic areas and registration points as scheduled. Batch, label, and route loose reports, late charts/documentation for scanning that are critical to coding, prioritizing according to process and policy. Maintain charge tickets in an orderly fashion; boxed according to date.
Coordinate storage, archival and record retention of scanned and unscanned documents. Complete routine purging of inactive records and removal to inactive shelves.
Completes the dividing of charts for space availability in the file room, including shifting rows. Perform searches for misfiled records.
Complete Inpatient chart filing.
Helps answer incoming telephone calls. Sorts and processes facility specific health information management mail as applicable.
Serves as back-up to Release of Information (ROI) requests.
Meets established productivity and quality standards set in policy for each health information management function.
You will perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
Requires working knowledge of correspondence, scanning, and other tasks within the scope of health information management services
Ability to work with other departments and members of the medical staff
Accurate typing skills
Six [6] months of experience in a health information management
