Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Health Educator III for NJMS- Pediatrics. The Health Educator III is responsible for stimulating public awareness of health needs, sound health practices, hospital and community resources. Promotes public awareness of HIV and STI for prevention and improved public health status. Conducts outreach and case management to clients that are lost to care and links those who are newly diagnosed with HIV to appropriate care and treatment programs. Provides HIV counseling (ARTAS), testing and referrals for clients receiving services on the STOP mobile unit and on-site. Serves as lead HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Counselor. Participates in the Youth Advisory Board (YAB)Among the key duties of this position are the following:Studies and assesses health education needs of the community and analyzes the knowledge, interactions, beliefs, and practices of people in the community to identify populations at risk of HIV infection and determine possible barriers to health education processes.Applies the CDC's Social Networking Strategy utilized to recruit clients for program participation and referrals for HIV testing.Provides outreach to HIV positive individuals who are lost to care. Links those who are newly diagnosed to services and resources.Assess and identify individuals that would benefit from PrEP and initiate referrals for treatment when appropriate. Maintains PrEP Counselor certification.Serves as lead PrEP counselor including sessions, data entry and management in PrEP database, and PrEP monthly report.Provides family planning counseling to identify high-risk individuals in need of additional services |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Nursing, or related field plus two (2) years of experience or a Master's Degree plus one (1) year of health education experience.Equivalent experience, education, and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements. |
Certifications/Licenses |
Must have a valid New Jersey driver's license with an excellent driving record.Must have completed or be eligible to successfully complete the Rutgers's Defensive Driving Training Course.Ability to maintain confidentiality |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Must have experience working with populations at risk for and infected with HIV. Working knowledge of Newark and the Greater Essex County Community Required.Must be able to work independently and as a team player.Computer literacy specifically with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.Team builderStrong time management and organizational skills |
Preferred Qualifications |
Spanish proficiency in speaking and writing is preferred.NJDOH certified HIV/PrEP counselor preferred.Certified phlebotomy technician preferred. |
