Head of MAE
Reporting into the Head of Middle and Large Commercial Construction, Inland Marine, Energy and Media, Arts and Entertainment, this executive position leads, directs, and manages the business countrywide and is the Enterprise leader for M edia, Arts and Entertainment . This leader represents The Hartford and is the point of contact for our agency plant. This position is responsible for the P&L for the Media, Arts and Entertainment business. They lead critical enterprise initiatives and opportunities for The Hartford. This head of business position creates an environment which supports and motivates the team(s) and its individual team members to develop expert technical, sales, underwriting and customer service skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and oversight of the Media, Arts and Entertainment Underwriting team
Effectively and efficiently manage the portfolio’s P&L, meeting key financial objectives .
Develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, distribution partners, and clients and prospects.
Develop and execute underwriting strategies across the portfolio.
Achieve profitable growth.
Meet rate/retention objectives .
Support cross-sell initiatives.
Talent management.
Achieve quality/compliance objectives .
Develop new underwriting processes and improve old ones, to ensure they support our strategic business objectives .
Develop innovative, customer-led solutions.
Promote and support DEI .
Active and visible field engagement and industry engagement, including representing HIG at various industry events.
Active collaboration, coordination, and communication with key internal stakeholders, including, but not limited to: Risk Engineering, Claims and Premium Audit.
Leadership Create and sustain a high performing team through knowing and recruiting the best talent, maximizing the skills, flexibility, and potential of the professional staff, and minimizing employee-initiated turnover through effective management/leadership and human resources administration. Assess performance and potential accurately and align rewards with assessments of talent, through the effective administration of performance evaluations, compensation plans, development and/or action plans. Develop a pipeline of future leadership talent for the enterprise. Build and leverage diversity within the organization. Imbed a culture where employees follow willingly and enthusiastically. Lead change effectively. Collect and share communications that keep remote staff informed and connected with overall HIG progress and directives. Hold leaders accountable for meeting business objectives . Provide clear direction and communications that support HIG and segment initiatives. Ensure that leaders cascade information and keep employees informed.
QUALIFICATIONS
15+ years progressive experience in Commercial Lines P&C underwriting, sales, and supervision Demonstrated proficiency in sales, customer service and technical and leadership capability. Proven history of successfully leading complex organizations and matrix relationships. Consistent, elevated level of performance and achievement over the career span. Bachelor’s degree required . CPCU , CIC or other industry designation preferred. Demonstrate a bias for speed and execution that serves our shareholders and customers. Work together to drive solutions for the good of The Hartford . Demonstrate integrity and build trust with others. Motivate yourself and others to achieve ambitious standards and continuously improve.
Advanced knowledge and practice of entertainment business , P&L and Strategic planning experience
Strong managerial, team building, influence management, thought leadership, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to manage complex portfolios.
Technical knowledge of insurance industry operations and processes
Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
Strong executive presence, the ability to interact with the C-suite and across all levels of the organization.
Ability to manage vision and purpose, lead the organization through innovative and creative thinking.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$182,480 - $273,720
