Job Summary
The Washington Post is searching for our next Head of Digital Platforms, Advertising. This newly created role in our Advertising Product team will hold broad strategic revenue responsibility over our digital product portfolio. The ideal candidate has experience managing and maximizing direct and programmatic revenue across a full portfolio of digital assets including display, email, video, and audio, both through directly controlled inventory and offsite platform partners. This role oversees Yield across The Washington Post's digital business, responsible for maximizing revenue per ad impression across competing and complex priorities. This includes developing pricing & packaging strategy, forecasting and inventory management, and overseeing a team of programmatic, yield and platform buying experts. This role represents the commercial POV of digital advertising products in company-level innovation prioritization and planning.
This leader should be highly collaborative and adept at interfacing with stakeholders and coworkers from all different walks of life, from our passionate journalists, to our newsroom product and technology employees, to the c-suite. This role will report into the VP, Advertising Product and is a member of the senior team that leads the Washington Post's Advertising Sales Organization. This role is based at either The Post's headquarters in Washington, D.C or New York, NY working in a hybrid remote/onsite model.
MotivationsYou pride yourself on your strong analytical abilities to interpret data, trends, and market dynamics, enabling them to make data-driven decisions and optimize strategies effectively.You have the ability to develop a long-term vision, aligning it with the company's overall goals and objectives, and adjusting strategies as needed to stay ahead in a rapidly changing advertising landscape.You are structured in your thinking but believe that flexibility is the key ingredient to remaining relevant and competitiveYou have excellent communication and collaboration skills to work closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and technology, in order to implement optimization strategies effectively and gain support from key stakeholders.You have strong financial acumen to understand and manage revenue, pricing, and cost structures, ensuring that the organization achieves its financial targets and profitability goals.You are inspired by the opportunity to realize the mission of a purpose-driven organization and to future-proof the business model that supports it.ResponsibilitiesBuild, lead and manage a talented, high-performance revenue strategy team, cultivating an environment of ingenuity, risk taking, accountability and collaborationReport into and work with Revenue leadership to establish revenue goals, targets, and KPIsDevelop and execute strategies to maximize revenue per ad impression across display, audio, and video advertising formats, across direct sales and programmatic buying channels.Directly manage a programmatic sales team and platform management function, ensuring efficient and profitable programmatic buying processes and technologies.Set strategic direction, tactics and manage a team of channel buying and campaign management experts across social, programmatic display, and video networks, such as YouTube.Develop and implement effective pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with profitability to maximize revenue and ensure contribution to company-level profitability targetsLead detailed marketplace research and analyzes to identify competitive threats or market opportunities, and recommend/articulate appropriate strategic positions and directions to build and inform our revenue digital product portfolioIdentify, evaluate, and launch new digital advertising and revenue products and revenue-generating partnershipsUtilize data analytics and insights to make informed decisions, optimize ad inventory, and identify opportunities for revenue enhancement.Manage advertising revenue relationships with major social, content, video and mobile innovators in order to be first to test, adopt and shape revenue-driving opportunitiesPartner frequently with the newsroom and editorial leadership to identify and leverage opportunities to connect our world-class journalism with brand and client partnersWork across Product, Technology, Ad Sales, Editorial, Audience Development and Business Operations to create, implement and optimize digital revenue growth opportunities across platforms, and to ensure that digital products are implemented smoothly and successfullyQualifications 8-10 years of relevant work experience in a revenue management, digital sales, finance, or strategy-focused role. Previous experience within a news or media organization is a plus. The Washington Post includes salary ranges for certain positions to comply with local pay transparency laws. The salary range for this position is:
206,200.00 - 343,600.00 USD Annual
The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
