The opportunity
The Head of National Asian Markets, Retail Distribution, Individual Insurance , is accountable for driving the national strategy and growth of individual insurance & guaranteed investment product sales within the Asian market. The role is responsible for delivering key outcomes and leading a group of wholesalers to be a highly functioning, engaged sales team. These objectives will be optimally accomplished by developing a plan using the OKR methodology and staying laser-focused in a world of distractions.
The Head of Asian Markets has the responsibility to mentor the team and get on the field regularly to achieve effective outcomes. This role requires not only leadership but also direct interaction with MGAs, advisors, and distributors. As a member of the Retail Distribution Leadership Team (RDLT), the Head of Asian Markets will help achieve our ambition of being the undisputed leader for insurance in Canada.

Strategic Leadership
Design a national strategy for Asian Markets that balances the need to achieve short-term sales goals and long-term growth
Cultivate a strong culture of accountability and excellence; communicating strategic direction and build team engagement
Understand data and what story the data tells to make well-thought-out, strategic changes within the market
Sales Results
Initiate the development of a national sales plan for using the OKR methodology, identifying the right activities to get results
Establish and maintain relationships with MGA’s and distribution partners to ensure connectedness with regular Manulife producers
Seek out opportunities for new relationships with key, top-producing advisors to develop them into consistent, Manulife supporters
Conduct regular reviews of territory alignments to ensure regional and territory optimization to deliver on sales targets; making changes as needed
Develop and execute clear objectives, key results, and individual activity plans
Leverage all tools, technology, and resources to improve regional effectiveness
Leadership
Attract, recruit, and develop hard-working wholesalers and regional coordinators
Lead a team of high-functioning, upbeat salespeople, working with them to get the most out of them
Develop and implement a regional plan driving sales results and engaging employees
Engage in fearless conversations to develop team members
Ensure expectations are clear and consistent amongst team members
Seek opportunities for learning and development to continually hone your leadership skills
Know when to raise trending issues within the company to gain awareness and to be part of the problem-solving process
Lead by example with your teams, peers, and senior leaders, demonstrating emotional intelligence and situational awareness
Represent the retail distribution leadership team and the individual insurance team internally and externally
Qualifications:
Fluent in English, Mandarin and/or Cantonese
Post-secondary education encouraged
8 to 10 years of experience in the financial services industry with a deep knowledge of Individual Insurance products and sales strategies
LLQP, CFP, CLU, CHFC, CHS designations nice to have
Excellent understanding of Manulife insurance and guaranteed investment products, concepts, administration, systems & value proposition
Skills:
Solid understanding of the financial services industry and distribution in Canada
In-depth understanding of life insurance products
Have the ability to lead and empower a team to achieve desired results and outcomes.
Proven budget and business planning experience
Demonstrated selling skills with a detailed understanding of all aspects of the sales process
Excellent communication, written, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders and top salespeople
Networking, negotiation, and influencing skills
Strong capabilities in seeing opportunities to get results
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and exercise judgment in a changing environment
Excellent project and business planning skills with the ability to apply planning and tracking methodology
