The Fayetteville Observer / fayobserver.com , part of the USA TODAY NETWORK , is seeking an ambitious reporter to cover growth and development, business and related city/county/state government issues.
This is a vital coverage area for our readership and is ripe for subscription growth. The reporter is expected to track new major commercial/housing developments, investigate the companies behind major commercial expansions, and cover real estate market trends. The position also involves some coverage of city/county government issues, including ongoing coverage of GenX and "forever chemicals." This reporter will provide explanatory, enterprise and investigative reporting related to these issues in the city of Fayetteville, the towns of Hope Mills and Spring Lake and Cumberland County.

Responsibilities: Creates content (articles, videos, photos and social media posts) about local news that accurately informs, entertains and engages key audiences and platforms through the use of metrics. Provides Works toward becoming the community's leading voice in area of expertise. Plans and executes engagement opportunities to reach audiences through content, community events and social media. Connects with the community through outreach (social media, on camera, forums, community leadership, etc.). Works with coach and content strategist to evaluate Collaborates with content team to Produces photos and video as needed. Promotes personal brand, the brands of colleagues and the institutional brand. Coaches and mentors Provides Requirements: Bachelor's or master's 2 years' reporting experience, which could include freelancing, Adept at taking photos and video and will file quickly across platforms: mobile, desktop and social media. Strong command of AP grammar and style. Strong copy-editing skills and the ability to produce content that is clean, Is passionate and enthusiastic about news and content that will work well with audiences on social platforms. Comfortable in fluid, fast-breaking, stressful situations. A desire to grow and develop a key beat in our newsrooms. Understands reporting ethics and sourcing. Excels in a fast-paced news environment and understands the digital-first mission. Collaborates well with others and can work with a team on the biggest stories. This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
