About Graduate Nurse Bridge Program - Women's Health

Work where every moment matters. Every day, over 30,000 Hartford HealthCare colleagues come to work with one thing in common: Pride in what we do, knowing every moment matters here. We invite you to become part of Connecticut’s most comprehensive healthcare network. Hartford Hospital is one of the largest and most respected teaching hospitals New England. We are a Level 1 Trauma Center that provides cutting edge treatment to its patients. This is made possible by being home to the largest robotic surgery center in the Northeast and the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI), one of the most-advanced medical simulation training centers in the world. When hospitals cannot provide the advanced care, expertise and new treatment options their patients require, they turn to us. The Women’s Health Services (WHS) division here at Hartford Hospital is comprised of three units: Labor and Delivery (N6), Maternity (B6), and Women’s Health (N8). N6 Labor and Delivery has 16 labor/delivery/recovery beds, 5 obstetric triage beds and a surgical suite with 3 ORs for cesarean deliveries. Hartford Hospital is designated the Special Deliveries Childbirth Center and delivers approximately 4,000 babies each year. B6 Maternity is a 38 bed unit who provides holistic care to mothers and newborns. Maternity staff work closely with the obstetrical, pediatric, and neonatal intensive care teams to provide high quality family centered care. N8 Women’s Health is a 29 bed medical/surgical and high risk obstetrical unit serving the unique needs of all women. The North 8 patient population includes high risk antepartum women, postpartum women whose babies are in the NICU; women recovering from gynecological, uro-gynecological, gyn-oncology, or surgical procedures; or women admitted for medical management not requiring telemetry. All three units work closely together to support the needs of women. _RN Bridge Program_ The Women’s Health Services (WHS) RN Bridge Program was created to provide direct Women’s Health medical/surgical experience for new graduate nurses interested in pursuing a career in labor and delivery or postpartum. The RN will be hired to the WHS division at Hartford Hospital and start their careers on North 8 Women’s Health unit. During the first 12 months on North 8 the RN will attend Hartford Hospital’s Nurse Residency Program. After 1 year the RN will join a Women’s Health cohort where the RN engages in hands on experience related to labor and delivery and postpartum for an additional 6 months. The RN will work closely with the WHS leadership and education team to track progress towards a transition to the desired unit after a total of 18 months of service. Upon completion the RN will have a strong foundation in nursing skills such as assessment, time management, communication, teamwork, in addition to various competencies.
