SUMMARY
Under general supervision of Golf Superintendent, directs staff and participates in all phases of golf course maintenance including but not limited to those duties listed below. This position also has primary responsibility for the maintenance, repair and operation of the irrigation system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Oversees all aspects of the management of the golf course and grounds.Schedules and supervises work assignments.Directs work involving the use of equipment.Directs and plans all chemical and fertilizer applications.Applies pesticides and fertilizers as needed.Supervises the repair and maintenance of all mechanical and motor equipment.Operates, repairs and maintains irrigation system.Instructs employees on proper use of maintenance equipment.Assists and participates in planning, layout and supervising the construction and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs and all other ancillary components of the golf course.Assumes all management capacities in the absence of the Golf Course SuperintendentCoordinates golf maintenance activities with the Golf Pro/Manager and Clubhouse StaffAssists with payroll and other administrative duties when needed.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Superintendent, supervises a staff total of 5-14 employees in the Golf Maintenance Division.Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this division.Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A minimum of an Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with emphasis in Agronomy or Turf Maintenance; three (3) years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must obtain Maryland Pesticide Applicators License and a Professional Fertilizer Applicators license within six (6) months of hire.A valid driver's license is required; a CDL is preferred.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have working knowledge of golf course construction and maintenance; of seeding and maintenance of types of turf used on golf courses; of the planting and care of shrubs, trees; fertilization practices; herbicides and pest control methods; drainage control methods, watering and irrigation systems including wells and pumps.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a working knowledge of the game of golf. Ability to play golf is preferred, but not required.
