Job Description:
Summary:Barr is seeking a senior-level geologist or hydrogeologist to help with challenging projects related to environmental site assessments; investigations of soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor; evaluations of groundwater-surface water interactions; aquifer test performance and analysis; evaluation of exposure pathways; development of site conceptual models; and work plan, report preparation, and response action planning.
Additional responsibilities will include mentoring junior staff; preparing cost estimates and proposals; writing and managing delivery of technical reports; consulting with regulatory agencies and clients; and participation in business development initiatives and client management. While the position is located in Grand Rapids, periodic travel is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or related engineering degree
12 or more years of relevant work experience directly related to the responsibilities above
Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer license in at least one jurisdiction
Familiarity with Michigan EGLE regulations and Part 201 guidance
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients
Strong technical and problem-solving skills
Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering with an emphasis in hydrogeology
Experience or coursework in groundwater fate and transport and familiarity with MODFLOW
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Grand Rapids, Michigan, office.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
