Temporary full-time position from 3/11/2024 to 10/15/2024.Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of seed potatoes, wheat, barley, and alfalfa. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production.General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: under supervision may at times operate equipment (tractors with implements, loaders, trucks, etc.) associated with planting, growing, harvesting, or storing any of the listed commodities; may spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth and weeds from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; replace/repair fencing; perform general cleanup of farm areas; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; rogue potatoes by walking across fields and visually identifying weak or diseased plants and removing them (often through mud and large vines).Irrigation duties will include the following:Hand lines: connect pipes; check alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution; attach lines to water supply; turn on pump; turn valves to start flow of water; disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields at specified intervals; move pipes through freshly irrigated crops and/or plowed fields where mud may be deep at times; lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis.Other Irrigation Duties: remove pipes/lines from storage and lay out/place in predetermined patterns in fields; observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure proper operation and uniform distribution of water; disassemble, service, and store pipes/mainlines/equipment after irrigation season.Duties related to the Cutting/Sorting/Planting of Seed Potatoes will include the following:Will apply techniques as instructed by the employer to cut, sort, and plant potatoes by: riding equipment and placing seed pieces; using knife to cut potato into sections; placing potatoes on machine that cuts potatoes into sections; pushing button to start machinery; tending/monitoring machine to ensure proper movement of product; discarding diseased/rotting/inferior product and foreign matter; reporting malfunctions; lifting individual bags of potatoes onto and off of trucks, trailers, and equipment; removing air pipe from warehouse; clean, wash, disinfect air pipe and return to warehouse as instructed; helping to move, wash, clean, and disinfect machinery and equipment used to harvest potatoes in preparation for harvest and following harvest to return to storage; performing general cleanup to include sweeping and shoveling.Duties related to the Harvesting of Potatoes will include the following:Will apply techniques as instructed by the employer to: remove rocks from rows in front of harvesting equipment; discard diseased/rotting product, rocks, and foreign matter; alert equipment operator of equipment clogging/malfunctions; aid operator in correct machine performance.In view of the statutorily established basic function of the Employment Service (ES) as a no-fee labor exchange that is as a forum for bringing together employers and job seekers, neither the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) nor the State Workforce Agencies (SWA) are guarantors of the accuracy or truthfulness of information contained on job orders submitted by employers.
