The Role:
Aircraft Engineering Manager to Lead the Aircraft Safety Management, Safety Engineering Team and to assist the further development of the delivery of effective Product, Systems and Services to support the safety capability across a growing range of programmes.
Reporting to the BDUK System Safety and Environmental Engineering Manager the successful candidate will deliver first-line management and leadership of the Aircraft System Safety team, delivering effective Product, System and Service Safety Management. This role is based at Bristol or Yeovil, with hybrid working options, and some UK and occasional international travel.
Responsibilities include:
Development and execution of an organizational framework to deliver effective Product, System and Service Safety Management and Safety Engineering Support to BDUK Aircraft Programmes and Campaigns.Leadership and the growth of a suitably qualified and experienced team to provide Engineering Support to BDUK Aircraft Programmes and Campaigns.Early engagement with other functional staff on Safety Management considerations and requirements for new projects.Oversee the development and Performance Management of the Aircraft Safety Engineering Team, including the ability to employ early career and intern staff.Development where appropriate Technical Lead Engineer and Associate Technical Fellow accreditation within the Aircraft Safety Team.Planning and forecasting of Aircraft Safety resource requirements and management of associated operating budgets.Management of change within the Aircraft Safety Team.Contribute to the Safety SME and Technical Assurance capabilities across all BDUK products and services.Liaison with and support to BDUK Safety Management System staff to ensure the delivery of safe products and services.
Preferred Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
Degree in Engineering or equivalentFormal system safety trainingDemonstrable experience leading and developing Safety Assessments for MoD complex systems and or aircraft.Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of:Product, System and Service Safety Management,Safety EngineeringDevelops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals.Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements.Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes. Manages, develops and motivates employeeThe candidate should possess strong communication skills, technical competency, and skills with project management concepts/tools.Previous industry Safety Engineering and Environmental Management experience in the application of:Def Stan 00-056POSMSDevelopment of Safety Management SystemsIn-service management of Safety CasesHazard Log derivation and ManagementExperience with the use of common safety tools, such as, eCassandra, ASCE (Adelard Safety Case Environment), RBW (Reliability WorkBench) Fault Tree module, BowTieXT
The ability to obtain UK Security Clearance is essential.
