Wish of a Lifetime from AARP (WOL) grants wishes to people 65-plusconnecting them to their passions in recognition of their specialaccomplishments, contributions, and sacrifices. WOL helps people achievelong-held goals while also combatting the negative effects of isolation andstrengthening social ties and intergenerational connections.Are you a college student who is creative and passionate about making theworld a better place? As the face of Wish of a Lifetime, our team is responsible formanaging a regional network of volunteers, sourcing wishes from localstakeholders, and expanding the delivery of services with a focus onintergenerational programming. As an intern, youwill apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help recruitand train a sustainable network of volunteers, ensure a steady flow of wishsubmissions through creative and network-driven sourcing efforts, andsupport the field team in expanding the delivery of services with a focus onintergenerational programming. Support volunteer recruitment and training effortsOrganize volunteers to help support programming goalsCreate presentations and communications collateral to engage localorganizationsWork with a multidisciplinary team to create strategic plans for futureintergenerational programsConduct local outreach to inform organizations and individuals about ourmission and uncover wishes for deserving seniors in the communityCollaborate with the Wish Operations Team to ensure successful vetting andexecution of wishes within a geographic regionQualifications
Prospective interns must be currently enrolled in a degree program at anaccredited college or university; be considered rising undergraduate juniorsor seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students; and remainacademically enrolled throughout the internshipAARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter theworkforce or change careers; this may include those who have previouslygraduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education programKnowledge of the non-profit sector, either through coursework,volunteerism, or employment experienceExcellent communication skills with the ability to confidently and clearlycommunicate information verbally and in writingThe ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with information thatwill be obtained in daily interactionsProficiency in all MS Office programs with an emphasis on MS Word, Excel,and internet research toolsSome volunteer experience is preferred, although not requiredAARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position at this time.Additional RequirementsRegular and reliable job attendanceExhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professionalrelationshipsIndependent judgement in evaluation options to make sound decisionsIn office/open office environment with the ability to work effectivelysurrounded by moderate noiseAbility to occasionally lift up to 25 poundsFlexible Work Arrange ent (FWA)AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except foressential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within theUnited States and its territories.Compensation and BenefitsThe hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students,$28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are noteligible for employee benefits.
