Assist supervisors in directing assigned tasks and instructing workersin planting, harvesting, grading, labeling, packing, and loadingactivities. May serve as lead worker in small crews.
Fill containers using automated soil filling machinery; placeidentification stakes, labels, tags, and individualized pre-pricinginformation on finished product; prune, pinch, remove dead leaves, oldflowers, off of plants to create market quality product; install shadecloth, or shade coverings; maintain, irrigation equipment by opening andclosing doors and vents; fertilize plants; fill customer orders bydirecting self to plant location, selecting quality plants, and placingproduct on carts; place plastic or paper sleeve over plant beforeshipment to customers; perform quality control and accurate counts byrecounting pulled order and assuring plant quality.
Pull orders (while selecting quality plants) according to customerrequest; place tags and apply marketing material to finished product;prunes trees and marketable plants; perform quality control; and applyplants and weeds with pesticides and herbicides; label, count and gradeplants using instruments and quality standards of nursery; recordinformation to maintain records for accurate inventory using spreadsheetor computerized inventory control equipment including computer, handheldinventory device; process and package shipping paperwork, mix soil andprepare growth media using skid steer or front end loader; cover oruncover poly structures, cover and uncover plants with frost blankets.
Conduct inventory of plant materials; conduct quality controlinspections; prepare and organize orders for boxing, operate irrigationpumps and monitor particular/individual crops water needs to ensureapplication of correct amount of irrigation water; perform heavy manuallabor; perform minor adjustments, maintenance or repair of equipment,machinery, and small structures; operate large agricultural machinery,mow and perform grounds maintenance.
Build and assemble bamboo trellises used in plant production; placeplants back in the field that were mistakenly order pulled, cancelled bycustomer, damaged, or of poor quality; fix and maintain signage used foridentifying hundreds of plant varieties in fields; enter plantingrecords into computer; remove, repair, and replace above groundirrigation parts; erect hoop houses by utilizing a mechanical jackhammer to pound metal stakes into the ground for stabilization; irrigateplant material (hundreds of varieties) based on plant variety water needand climate conditions; take and stick unrooted softwood, hardwood andtissue culture cuttings, and divide perennial clumps.
Operate forklifts & tractors while pulling wagons and trailers; back uptrailers; operate skid steers, articulating loaders or front-endloaders, pick-ups, small trucks, dump trailers, golf carts, ATVs, farmimplements, and other machinery that might be used in a wholesalenursery; and transport workers for nursery activities (workers withappropriate drivers license and driving record only).
General Specifications
Daily individual and/or crew work assignments will be made by and at thesole discretion of the employer or a designated employee as the needs ofthe nursery operation dictates. Workers must perform the assigned workand may not switch work assignments without the specific authorizationof designated supervisor. Workers may be assigned to a variety of tasksin any given day and/or to different tasks on different days. Workerswill be expected to perform any and all of the listed tasks assigned tothe worker in a workmanlike and efficient manner.
