This application encompasses general farm andharvest labor on a row crop farm. This job requires a minimum of 3months of general farm labor experience. The lifting requirement forthis position is 60 pounds.
The anticipated hours listed represent the normal work schedule. Due tothe nature of these crops, weather, and the requirement to send crops tocustomers when needed, it is the prevailing practice to work more ordifferent hours than those listed. A worker may be offered more than thespecified hours of work; however, the worker will not be required towork for more than the number of hours specified in the job order, or onthe workers Sabbath or Federal holidays. Saturday work may be required.Workday start times vary depending on the weather. depending on the timeof year, hours of daylight, and production requirements. Workers must beable to work varying shifts as required by the season and workperformed. Workers are notified of any change in the start times. Workmay be performed during rain, light snow, cold, freezing temperaturesand/or in high humidity and in temperatures over a 100 degrees F. Workermay be required to work in fields when crops are wet with dew/rain andshould have suitable clothing for variable weather conditions.
Workers must possess requisite physical strength and endurance to repeatthe harvest process throughout the workday. Workers must work at asustained, vigorous pace and make bona-fide efforts to work efficientlyand consistently that are reasonable under the climatic and all otherworking conditions. Workers may never ride on agricultural equipment notdesigned for work related riding purposes or any other non-passengerintended equipment unless instructed and authorized by the employer orsupervisor to do so. Workers with valid drivers licenses and that areinsurable may transport workers, equipment or crop. All work-relatedinjuries must be immediately reported to the crew leader, foreman, orsupervisor. Employer-paid drug test is required if a worker has anaccident at work. If light duty work is assigned for a workerscompensation injury, the worker will be expected to return to work andperform the light duty work upon advice from a physician and the workerscompensation insurance company. Full Growing Season Commitment: The joboffered requires that the worker be available for work every day thatwork is available for the full period of employment. The worker agreesto be available for work and perform the assigned work for the assignedemployer whenever work is available through the full period ofemployment. Training: There will be a demonstration period tofamiliarize workers with job specification and to demonstrate properharvest methods and other crop specific issues such as particulargrading and or sizing.
Irrigation duties:
Hand lines:
1.Connect pipes
2.Check the alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution
3.Attach lines to water supply
4.Turn on pump
5.Turn valves to start flow of water
6.Disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields at specifiedintervals,
7.Move pipes through freshly irrigated crop and/or plowed fields wheremud may be deep at times
8.Lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 60 pounds on asustained basis
Flood Irrigation:
1.Lift gate inside of flooded irrigation ditch/pipe permitting water toflow into bordered section of field
2.Shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment of cut trenches inhigh areas to direct water flow
3.Close gates in ditch/pipe when bordered section is flooded
4.Open gate or connect pipe to underground pipe system that releaseswater flow into reservoir or ditch
5.Siphon water from flooded reservoir or ditch to channel water intodesignated reas
6.Shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments toappropriately channel water
7.Mix and apply proper solutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches,and spillways, and make minor repairs to metal, concrete, and woodenframeworks in pipe and ditch valves and gates.
Job Duties - 4. Additional Job Duties
Drip Irrigation:
Workers will lay drip tape and remove drip tape in fields during thegrowing season. They will inspect, monitor, and repair drip systemdaily.
Other Irrigation Duties:
1.Remove pipes/wheel lines from storage and lay out/place inpredetermined patterns in fields
2.Lubricate, adjust, repair and replace parts such as sprinkler headsand drive chains using hand tools
3.Observe Revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure proper operation anduniform distribution of water
4.Disassemble, service, and store pipe/mainlines/wheel lines afterirrigation season.
5.To meet minimum acceptable performance standards when irrigating, theworker must, after a 10-day conditioning period, move an average of atleast 48 40-foot sections of 3-inch pipe or 44 40-foot sections of4-inchpipe per hour under normal working conditions.
Other Duties May Include:
1.Operate or maintain equipment used in agricultural production andfield preparation such as tractors, irrigation equipment, 4-wheelers,non-CDL, farm-exempt trucks, and other commonly used equipment inagriculture.
2.Operate tractors to mow, weed spray and trailers in the fields.
