About the role
In 2019, Diageo announced our company-wide ESG (environmental, social and governance) action plan, ‘Society 2030: Spirit of Progress’. The action plan addresses our most material ESG issues, including climate change, access to water, biodiversity, inclusion and diversity, business integrity, human rights, workplace safety and the harmful use of alcohol. The Board have defined 25 targets, and additional metrics in other areas, which measure the impact we are having against the ESG topic. ESG reporting is a rapidly evolving space, with new regulations becoming effective in the UK, EU and US in the next 2-5 years.
Our ESG reporting team is rapidly growing and they are responsible for compliance with current and future ESG regulations. The ESG reporting team is a high profile team, frequently interacting with members of the Group’s Executive Committee. Key stakeholders include senior leaders across Diageo, functional leaders, external advisors and legal counsel. Collaboration is required with many layers of the business and external vendors as well.
This role will own and manage a section of our ESG reporting, most likely a portion of our environmental reporting such as Carbon, Water, Packaging and Waste.
The key activities include:
Developing relationships with senior stakeholders and clearly communicating expectations regarding their involvement in the ESG reporting cycleDeveloping the technical knowledge required to be the custodian and owner of the reporting methodologies and boundaries for selected ESG dataCoordinating training of section-data owners and users to drive accurate reportingProviding “Line of Defence 2” challenge to the quality of ESG data, including designing and operating validation controlsDrafting and writing policies, procedure descriptions, and delivering instructions, guidelines for functional teams
What you’ll bring
Experience in managing cross-functional teams essentialFluent in EnglishStrong interpersonal skills, proven track record of senior stakeholder managementEstablished track record in leading and managing significant change programs or leading or taking part in transition projectsTechnical reporting skillsAble to work independently with limited supervision, solving complex issues and owning their areaStrong understanding of SOP goals - positive drinking and sustainable development issues and how to gather and share data and stories to build Diageo’s corporate reputationUnderstanding of the key climate change and sustainability issuesUnderstanding of ESG disclosure trends and best practicesFamiliarity with EU, UK, US regulations for sustainability reportingFamiliarity with TCFD, SASB and GRI standardsExperience with ESG data reporting, knowledge of group reporting tools (W-Desk, BFC) is an advantage
