The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts.
The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, golf courses, skating rinks, trails and parkways.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the position of Environmental Analyst II - GIS Technician Map/Data Development, located at 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA. Please submit a cover letter and resume as part of the application process.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Technician for Trails Mapping and Data Development. DCR has an extensive road and trail system and is seeking a GIS Technician that can help with data development, data maintenance, ArcGIS Online application development, field data collection, workflow documentation and GIS training.
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Editing and maintaining DCR roads and trails data using both ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
• Field data collection of DCR roads and trails using GPS (ArcGIS Field Maps).
• Producing trail maps to be used by the public or creating map files that can be handed to a graphics vendor for final design and printing.
• Working with DCR staff to provide quality assurance and quality control for the DCR Roads and Trails Data.
• Working with others in the GIS Office and with program staff to create data schema and design workflows using ArcGIS Online maps and applications.
• Creating new ArcGIS Online solutions: web maps, web apps, StoryMaps, and smart forms to communicate information and to gather data both for the public and internal DCR staff and partners.
• Create and update training material and assist in training DCR staff.
• Document workflows to communicate how an application was built and how processes should be used.
• Other related duties as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Understanding and knowledge of spatial data design, data collection, cartography, and data analysis.
• Proficiency in ESRI products, specifically ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro.
• Some knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe products.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the-required experience.
II. A Graduate degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.
III. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
