Engineering Technician 1- The starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $1.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2- Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $1.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3- Starting salary is $16.03/hourly
Engineering Technician 4- Starting salary is $18.35/hourly.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Function Statement:
The overall function of this position is responsible for assisting the Engineer 7 (Area A Engineer) and the Engineering Technician 7 in daily activities and responsibilities of the Area Engineer’s Office. This position is located in the District 61/Unit 001, East Baton Rouge Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Engineer 7 (Area A Engineer.) The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.
The incumbent has the responsibility for assisting the Area Engineer in organizing, planning, scheduling, executing and coordinating construction and maintenance activities on roads, bridges, airports and public works projects within East Baton Rouge Parish. Responsibilities may include training one or more new construction unit ET office personnel and/or a maintenance unit clerk engaged in compiling, ascertaining, maintaining and transmitting contract accounting and compliance records and general P.E. and/or maintenance unit office documentation and payrolls.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
30% Manages internal office operation of the Area Engineer’s office. Organize and maintain all office correspondence. This includes all construction project documents as well as maintenance unit documents. Filing construction project contracts at the clerk of courts office in which the project is being housed. Create and maintain Customer Complaint Log. Assist Maintenance clerk with submitting claim forms to Department Insurance Company. Communicates with general public, contractor, news media, legislators, other Department personnel, etc. to ensure accurate and timely conveyance and dissemination of information.
20% Correspond through office e-mail and mail. Review all e-mail and paper mail delivered to the office and distribute as needed. Filing in office files as necessary. Drafts necessary Area Engineer correspondence including Tasker Response Letters for District Administrator. Relay customer call complaints to Area Engineer and Maintenance Specialist as necessary. Perform site visits to investigate customer complaints. Conduct follow-up surveys regarding recently completed maintenance activities.
15% Submit reimbursable claims to legal department for collection. Prepare and maintain Home Storage Forms for Maintenance Superintendent. Prepare Highway Accident Checklist forms. Collect and store monthly vehicle logs from Area Engineer and Maintenance Specialist. Accesses LEO and Agile systems to gather information, generate reports, etc. Collect accident reports from State Police for the maintenance units. Reviews accident reports, gathers data, coordinates data compilation by others, and compiles records. Coordinates information gathering in maintenance unit. Maintains records of weather events, accidents, and lawsuits.
15% Draft sketches and details pertaining to roadway and bridge rehabilitation repairs. Assemble and review temporary traffic control plans for scheduled maintenance and construction activities. Prepare site plan drawings and typical sections for emergency operational procedures. Assemble contract documents for signature for emergency operational activities. Calculate maintenance inventory quantities for internal review purposes. Perform field calculations for purposes of ordering materials for maintenance operations.
15% Telephone communications including answering incoming calls and directing calls accordingly, responding to the concerns of the public or other DOTD staff. Provide phone numbers to callers for other offices that could better assist their needs, maintaining voicemail’s incoming and outgoing messages. Review construction contracts and proposals for proper lane closure restrictions.
5% Will be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
