As an Engineering Team Leader you will inspire, guide, and support talented manufacturing engineers, design engineers, procurement, and supply chain professionals as they increase their understanding and execution of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), New Product Introductions (NPI) and New Source Introductions (NSI) for Caterpillar manufacturing in Mexico.
Additionally, the role will drive engagement and collaboration between product groups across the enterprise and the Advanced Components Manufacturing (ACM) resources to ensure we achieve the capacity and capability needed On-Time to support critical imperative projects.
A key challenge of this role will be to carefully evaluate gaps in program execution and to escalate and engage the leadership or management support needed to quickly resolve.
Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for providing training, coaching, and governance support to ensure multiple or complex product development projects involving multiple functions, organizations, products, or value chains are effectively placed into production. Acts as the link between the ACM team and the Team@Excellence for any focused defect or cost reduction efforts.
This position identifies process improvement opportunities and determines the next steps needed to help engage the appropriate resources to drive positive change. Provides input into departmental strategies and ensures the Mexico region is represented as the enterprise process owners seek feedback to make updates and cascade new standards to product development teams.
What you will do:
Provide regular APQP training offerings, including associated processes (DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, etc).
Provide leadership and updates to training material, process guidance, and standard work
Regularly update leadership on NPI, NTI, NSI, CPI, and APQP activities governance support.
Working closely with procurement, product group, manufacturing, and logistics teams to ensure a clear understanding of the program needs and timing, along with assessing risk to production launch or a successful hand-off to the operations team.
Identify areas of improvement needed to increase APQP coverage on parts changing or going to production for the first time.
Coordinate and lead Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD) escalation events as needed in support of enterprise efforts to produce Defect-Free products and components.
Actively engage with internal team members and resources supporting the Team@Excellence

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline
8+ years of engineering, manufacturing, or operations experience plus familiarity with company manufacturing facilities, equipment, and processes
Fluency in English and Spanish is essential.
Product Group, NPI, Operations, or Manufacturing Advanced Planning experience.
Top candidates will also have:
Master’s degree in a Business or Engineering discipline
5+ years leading APQP product development efforts or NPI experience
Formal Leadership experience
6 Sigma Black Belt experience
