You will gain on the job experience within our workshops in Glendullan (Dufftown), Burghead, Glen Ord, Islay or on site within malt distilleries, maltings, and co-product plants throughout Scotland.
How does the programme work?
As a Graduate Apprentice you earn while you learn. You will study towards a work-based BEng (Hons) Engineering: Design & Manufacture (Mechanical) degree at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh commencing September 2024, whilst receiving a competitive salary and benefits package.
The degree programme will give you a firm grounding in Engineering core disciplines, then in Year 3 you will specialise and complete specific modules aligned with the growing engineering specialists within the Business area you will be working in.
The academic learning delivery model at Heriot-Watt University for this Graduate Apprenticeship degree programme is day-release and ‘high-flex’. This means you will attend University one day per week but can choose to attend either in-person or remotely via online learning.
Throughout the four years of study, you will have the opportunity to work in, and learn about the key aspects of both the Engineering and partner functions we work with across our Operational Supply Base. You will rotate across different roles to ensure real depth of understanding of our supply chain operations and the technical aspects of our production processes.

Academically we need you to be able to meet the following University entry requirements:
Standard Year 1 entry for new employees applying directly from school or further education:
SQA Highers at BBBB including Mathematics, plus Physics or similar.A-Levels at BBC including Mathematics, plus Physics or similar.SQA HNC in an engineering discipline (or relevant Modern/Technical Apprenticeship) with Engineering Mathematics 1 & 2 (or equivalent)Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering in conjunction with SQA Highers at BBB* including Mathematics.A combination of qualifications totalling 96 SCQF credits at level 6 or Minimum 106 UCAS points
Non-Standard entry for applicants with prior work experience and professional qualifications:
There is a possibility to be considered through the university’s flexible entry system through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This process allows prospective Graduate Apprentices to claim credit(s) against previously assessed and certificated learning, including informal learning, to be considered and recognised for academic purposes and credit within their programme for example Modern Apprenticeships, HNC and HND certifications.

What should I expect from the selection process?
Selecting the right individuals to join our programme is crucial to us – we want to see all that complete this Apprenticeship succeed and keep crafting a satisfying career!
This is why we have built a 3 steps selection process:
1st STEP – CV application
At this stage is important that you submit your updated CV, clearly stating your highest acquired education and your experience.
We don’t expect you to have experience in Engineering.
A brief description of your part time jobs, volunteering, sports, and hobbies can be a fantastic way to introduce yourself and describe your passion for this career path.
If you have been successful at CV stage st screening, you will then be invited to the second step.
2nd STEP –Initial zoom screening interview3rd and FINAL STEP – Assessment Centre
